Roger Clemens can't get to 2009 soon enough. Five days before the new year, Clemens received another professional setback and blow to his ego. Houston's Memorial Hermann Medical Center announced Saturday that it is removing Clemens' name from the Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine, a facility that opened three years ago. A statement released by Memorial Hermann said, "To better reflect its commitment to all sports and athletes, the facility will transition to become known as the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute, effective Jan. 1, 2009. The move reflects a desire to promote the broad range of sports medicine services and programs offered by Memorial Hermann across the greater Houston area." According to reports, Clemens donated $3 million to Memorial Hermann for a pediatric wing at Memorial Hermann's Children's Hospital.

Rank. Your mamma.

I guess $3 million does not buy what it used to.

Yeah. Great opening comment.

I hope he at least got his 3 Mil back. The new Rodney Dangerfield. No Respect.

December 28, 2008  10:13 AM ET

yeah, the hospital should give the 3 million back. that is just wrong.

December 28, 2008  10:43 AM ET

GOOD FOR THEM AND BAD FOR HIM HIS LEGACY HAS GONE OUT FROM UNDER HIM COMPLETELY

December 28, 2008  10:49 AM ET

What's wrong with the hospital doing this? Unless they had an agreement, they can name the place anything they want. Clemens has destroyed his image. He shows all the signs of using steriods. Barry Bonds has been thrown under the bus, and deservedly so. Clemens can kiss the HOF plaque goodbye.

December 28, 2008  10:51 AM ET

No doubt, I despise Clemens with the best of them. But really now... has the NY Daily News ever in its tabloid history devoted this much time, energy, and news space to a single human being and his pathetic life? Clemens gets more time in the Daily News than Madoff and the white collar criminals on Wall Street.

December 28, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Clemens has proven himself to be a complete dirtbag. The hospital should return the 3 mil, and the HOF should forget he ever played.

December 28, 2008  11:24 AM ET

so much for not innocent until proven guilty

December 28, 2008  12:05 PM ET

Maybe Rog can get his name on something more appropriate like a trash dump.

December 28, 2008  12:33 PM ET

good for clemens.......what a piece of doody this guy is

December 28, 2008  01:39 PM ET

maybe the hospital can rename the syringe recycling containers after roidger instead.

Instead of the medical waste sign they can just put his face on the bins. I like it.

This is getting over the top. I bet they keep this 3 Million. If they want to impress me give him his money back. I'm sure having his name on the building will make people not want to get help there!

December 28, 2008  04:04 PM ET

People slam him for steriod use. Why? Who does it hurt other than him? Yes he is supposed to be a roll model not that he asked to be. The guy still put his heart and soul into the game you still have to work hard don't you? How much good has he done that people do not know but yet people rush to judge him. How many children has he saved with that 3mil and the many millions I'm sure he has donated in the past. So before you judge a person for something that just hurts him look in the mirror and ask how much time and money have you donated to a good cause and how many things did you do with the passion Roger had for Baseball and for his family which is why he played the game not for fans as a job which it is. Thanks for the good times Roger even if you did use steroids who am I to judge another person and who is anyone else.

We have laws in this country birdbrain.
Some laws are even designed to prevent people from harming themselves.
Should we give Plaxico Burress a free pass because he only shot himself?

December 28, 2008  07:45 PM ET

Hey Roger...Misremember this..<Big middle finger to Roidger>

December 28, 2008  10:53 PM ET

Clemens seems to know lots about baseball and drugs. His name on a sports medicine facility is perfect.

December 28, 2008  11:03 PM ET

Doctor Baseball, Do you speed in your car? I'm sure you do and that's a law. Shooting yourself shows you have problems that you need to get help with. Again about Roger if he did it which I'm sure he did I think millions of dollars to save a child's life gives him a pass even though what he did was wrong. Our country and senators and courts have better things to take care of. The Government spent more time on sports and steroids then it did getting oil prices down. The great thing about this country though is among other thing we can speak our opinions as we are so you have yourself a good night and I hope the hospital still shows some respect to the person who helped save lives.
