AJ Allmendinger is set to replace Elliott Sadler in the #19 Dodge in 2009, multiple Gillett Evernham Motorsports team sources told ESPN.com on Saturday. GEM CEO Tom Reddin told team employees and sponsors the news just before Christmas, causing some sponsors to consider leaving, according to team sources. Reached for comment Saturday, GEM spokesman Drew Brown chose not to comment.

What lineup would I want? Kahne, Sorenson and Sadler OR Kahne, Sorenson and Allmendinger. I think the one with Sadler is a little better.

December 28, 2008  11:28 AM ET

Sadler is a chump. My favorite driver quote this past season came after Elliot ran Tony Stewart off the track. Tony took responsibility saying; It was all my fault, I should have know better than to get within a 1/2 track length of that guy!

December 28, 2008  11:49 AM ET

wow... this is a surprise to me. i'd keep sadler..

December 28, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Rex...like Tony never caused a wreck. Tony's mouth has been known to get about a lap ahead of his brain.

December 28, 2008  01:39 PM ET

Yeah, I'd rather have Sadler. Wonder where he will end up?

December 28, 2008  01:43 PM ET

I'd rather have Sadler too.

December 28, 2008  03:32 PM ET

Sadler was the Ticket, looks like "someone" has made the wrong decision!

I'm with you on this one. I don't understand why GEM made this move.

December 28, 2008  06:23 PM ET

You'd keep Sadler? Why? What has he done the past 5 seasons except wreck a bunch of cars? No wins in recent memory, he's a back marker. Allmendinger got into the 10 car, which he'd never driven, new crew chief, everything, and out performed Sadler in all but one race and that was only by one position. Sadler finished one position ahead of him at Homestead, Phoenix AJ 16th, Sadler 30th, Texas AJ 26th, Sadler 35th, Atlanta AJ 14th, Sadler 35th, Martinsville AJ 15th, Sadler 41st. So exactly why would you keep Sadler? A guy in his second season who has never driven a stock car before that essentially kicks his butt all over the place. Yah, I'd keep Sadler, whatever.

December 28, 2008  06:25 PM ET

So someone here tell me why you want to keep Sadler over Allmendiner? AJ outdrove Sadler in a car that he just stepped into after being out several races from the Red Bull team. New car, new team, new crew chief and years less experience that Sadler and Sadler only finished above him in one race that they were together on the team. In fact AJ usually finished at least 10 positions higher the ES. Sadler is a worthless driver, wrecks more than most and for a veteran he should be a lot better. He isn't. He's done and AJ has a lot more potential. So back to the question, why should GEM keep Sadler?

Come on dude, I didn't say Stewart never got loose and wrecked, but Sadler wrecked more cars this year than Tony has in the last ten. Sadler is a pylon, just something for the good drivers to go around.
Besides, it was funny as hell when he said it.

December 29, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Elliott's future is in front of a camera. Like him as a driver, but I think AJ has more upside to him than Sadler does.

December 29, 2008  02:58 PM ET

I think it's all marketing. Sadler has been around long enough and people are not lined up to purchase caps and cars etc..
A.J. has a chance to be another Kayne or close to it if he wins a few races.

Also in 2 years how many time has Sadler put that 19 running up front?

Agreed..they must see something in AJ. Sadler hasn't had much success recently.I remember saying "what's with this kid Ragan, what's the cat in the hat thinking" ran around a few years w/o much success. This year he ran pretty well ,consistently.Regan Smith continues to show talent from time to time.Give him a year or two and we may see why, especially if the crew chief, crew and driver all click.

December 29, 2008  08:08 PM ET

It's way more of a team sport than people often realize. Take Knause away from Johnson and does he win 3 titles in a row? Pit stops gave Rusty and Gordan lots of wins over the years. You get these kids some experience and a good crew and look out.Teams(Roush,Ginn and then DEI) brought in an experienced guy like Mark to work with these young drivers so they develop. Watch Hendricks drivers(Jr. especially) improve this year.Although the cot kinda leveled the playing field between new and old drivers. They all had to adjust. Old drivers may even have had to unlearn stuff to adjust.(possibly Sadlers problem)So do they loose much switching AJ and Sadler? Probably not..

I will be glad to tell you .... it is called experience, yeah dinger made a good show. but it was in a car that he had nothing to do with getting right, someone else did it for him,.now we will see how good he is... if he was sooo good why did he get his butt kicked out of red bull>????dinger can get it done if the car is right but if it aint he needs help, and he will be looking for help all year long...sadler and kahne got the team where it was when dinger took over but we will see where he winds up when its all on his shoulders.
it is fun t6o watch all the arm chair creww chiefs make complete **** of themselves.....
the dr.,

Dr., Sadler got the team to where it was/is? Seriously? What exactly has Sadler done in the past 4 years? Nothing, that's what he's done. If he hasn't at least challenged for a top 10 finishing position in all the years he's been in Cup at this point then he probably never is going to. Allmendinger got let go from Red Bull because of the owners love affair with Scott Speed, that's why. And if you want to blame a rookie driver for Red Bulls problem then dude, I don't know what sport you're talking about. A new manufacturer, a new car, new teams, actually two new cars and you blame a guy for the teams performance. Why don't you look across the f$#@*& pit garage at Michael Waltrips team? How did that veteran do with those things? Oh yah, not so well. Sadler has had veteran teams, solid support and plenty of experience and a guy comes in who barely has a full season under his belt and spanks his **** immediately and consistently? And you wonder why they're going with him. Clearly your a dumbass.

December 30, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Has Sadler has never been a top rate driver. Why not take a chance on a young driver.
