Nationals shifting sights to Dunn?

Washington GM Jim Bowden did all he could to get Mark Teixeira, and Scott Boras indicated the Nationals were in on the talks until the bitter end. Now Bowden is in need of a hitter and has indicated he is not interested in Manny Ramirez. Adam Dunn, a player Bowden had while he was the GM in Cincinnati, might be a target.

forgot about him.....
other than the strikeouts-
his #'s truly are fantastic

Obviously it's all about the $$....but if I were him after playing
on an AWFUL team for the last few years-
I would NOT go to Wash- another potential graveyard

Too much money for a cardboard cutout on defense.

TOO MANY STRIKEOUTS FOR MY LIKING BUT HE DOES LAUNCH THE HOMERS THOUGH ITS A WASH.

i think dunn would be a good fit forn the angels, there he could be on a winning team willing to spend.

I am with you on that one Smart... I think he would be a terrific fit for us at the Big A... He would provide protection for everyone in our lineup... Big deal if we give away a few outs a year on D... He is gonna launch 30+ bombs a year... We need that in our lineup

If his defense sucks, he should go to an AL team and just DH...with him resting on the bench waiting for his next at-bat, rather than chasing down fly balls he can't get to, he just might get more than 40 HRs.

40 HR / 100 RBI guys aren't a dime a dozen. Unless he's a problem child, teams should be lining up to sign this guy.

hes hit 40 plus homers 6 straight seasons and last time i checked howard strikes out a ton to.. hes the most underappreciated guy available in free agency

I think the Mets should pick him up but no one has talked about that and I don't understand why.

I don't understand why teams are ignoring a player under 30 with 8 seasons giving him a career OPS+ of 130. He's also one of the few power hitters who can launch them out of any ball park.

go nats they need ofense

December 29, 2008  11:05 AM ET

Why not... they can get a Dunn and Abreu for the price of Tex.

Bowden is as stubborn as he is flawed in his talent appraisals as a GM. He has already reassembled 2/3 of Cincy's "All-Star OF of the future" by acquiring Kearns and Pena. I strongly believe he will bring Dunn into the fold (as a 1st baseman) and will likely use his last FA dollars to bring in a few low-risk, high reward pitchers (Saito and Gagne for the pen) and Livan Hernandez and Jennings for the back-end (insert chuckle) of their rotation. Bowden's limited payroll is nothing in comparison to his lack of competence at building a team. I think Dunn coming to the Nationals is all but a done deal, and I look forward to seeing Bowden get his pink slip when the Nat's fail to win 60 games for their second year running.
