Teams contacted Penn State coordinator

For defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, it's likely at least another three years before he would have any shot of succeeding Joe Paterno as head coach. With Paterno's latest three-year extension, Bradley endured another round of questioning today about his standing as the supposed head coach in waiting who may have to wait forever until he's the top guy. Bradley, like he always says, was adamant that he's not disappointed that he may have to keep on keeping on. "I've never worried about that," he said. "I've said that lots of times. It's not going to define me if I don't get to be a head coach. I think everybody makes a bigger deal about that." Bradley said that he had been contacted by programs about openings, but he declined to get into specifics. "This year I've been contacted by a lot of folks, but I've always been reluctant to talk about it because I don't think it's fair," he said.

Stay there kid (well relative to Paterno:), you're at one of the classiest programs you can be at -- you win AND the kids graduate.

If Bradley wants to be a head coach, he is a fool for staying at PSU.

I totally disagree, PSU has shown the type of loyalty for a head coach that is unheard of in today's D1 football environment (exception Coach Bowden). If Bradley hangs on for another 2 to 3 years he can be at PSU for life. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

PSU is LUCKY to have a guy WITHOUT an ego......He'll get his 10 years as a head coach there....

Is he next in line?

December 29, 2008  02:45 PM ET

Yes, he is.

He has essentially been the head coach in recent years from my point of view.

Where does Jay Paterno fit in in all of this?

December 29, 2008  05:38 PM ET

Jay isn't a popular guy with alumni and fans, he has no shot at his dads job.

Let's be clear, Penn State stand behind PATERNO. Any other coach who isn't a legend like JoPa would not get the loyalty you talk about.

I agree with NWPA........he already IS the head coach and has been so for about three years now........why rush the pressure when you are already making the decisions. Yeah, JoePa knows the "SpreadHD" offense and played a key role in its implementation.........guess again

Galen Hall said this week that he's going to retire when Joe is no longer the head coach, so I would expect Jay Paterno to be the next Offensive Coordinator

I hope that Tom stays. Of all future coaching options, he has the support of the fans and alumni.

Fight on State!

Yeah, I'm sure those are the exact words of the local magistrate as the revolving door of players make their appearances on a regular basis.
