Aaron Corp once again is one play away. USC Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the redshirt freshman quarterback had performed well enough during postseason practices to be starter Mark Sanchez's backup for Thursday's Rose Bowl game against Penn State. With Sanchez sidelined during much of training camp because of a knee injury, Corp competed with sophomore transfer Mitch Mustain for a possible starting role. Sanchez returned before the opener against Virginia and Corp was installed as the backup. Corp, however, lost the job because of mental mistakes made during bye-week practices after a victory over Ohio State. Mustain also struggled, and both dropped behind Garrett Green for the next game at Oregon State. Mustain was elevated to No. 2 after the loss at Corvallis, Ore., and he held it the rest of the season. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Corp outplayed Mustain during bowl practices, Carroll said.

Like I was saying in the T&R above... any focus on Penn State?
GO TROJANS!... but I'm concerned.

Mustain just can't win... He should have stayed at Arkansas and made them better...

As a USC fan, I agree completely.

OJ won't be coming to any practices for a while.

Yeah in retrospect I'm thinking that he's probably regretting transferring. He would probably be starting for them if he'd stayed.

OJ just goes to practice to get his stuff back

I wonder if Mustain's momma is going to go crying to Pete Carrol and/or the press about how bad her boy is being treated. Maybe she learned her lesson at Arkansas but I doubt it. Once a stage mom, always a stage mom

Don't worry, Mitch...just remember...Matt Cassel was a back-up at SC!

Duuuude, you'll be allright. The real concern should be if you'll have enough booze for after the game.

This is what we do at SC... Stock our cupboard with some of the best talent in the country... And let em fight it out to see who is best... This is another reminder that nobody just gets playing time... You have to earn it... Week in and week out.... I like it

Now Mustain can follow his high school coach Gus Malzahn to Auburn where he was just named the Offensive Coord. Maybe he can start when he is 22. That is if he can beat out Kodi Burns. Funny, Kodi did not go to Arkansas because Mustain was to be the Golden Child there.

Whooo, doggies! Does SC have QB problem after Sanchez leaves? Oh, my...a little weak in the QB area? Uh,oh.

December 30, 2008  03:22 PM ET

A little weak in the QB area???... Quite the contrary there Irish... Corp... Mustain... And we have Barkely coming in next year.... He would be the top-rated HS QB in the country... Consider yourself informed

Some people will never learn to accept a misleading win over a sub-par school and exit stage left without opening their mouth!
