The Browns will interview fired New York Jets coach Eric Mangini and current New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo this week for their coaching vacancy, NFL sources said. The Browns also are trying to get permission to talk to some of their other candidates, including Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. It is not yet known if they will be interested in fired Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.

If you take this job you have to deal with two pre Madonnas "Butter Fingers" Edwards and "The Soldier" Winslow.

Maybe the new GM and coach will get rid of both of them.

If you traded the two of them together you could probably get a used rubber and a carton of smokes!

Pre Madonna would imply and up and coming singer who has a lot of disdain for the church.

That is true. I would think twice on this job.

They just had a Defensive specialist in Crennel, Spagnuola is the same. I would think they are looking for someone with a history of building an offense behind him....

I have a serious question for all of you. The Browns have already begun interviewing head coaches even though they haven't agreed to terms with a General Manager. Wouldn't you want control of picking the head coach if you are to be their next G.M.? It sounds like whoever goes to Cleveland will have this owner dictating a lot of things? I would think of that as being a negative when considering Cleveland as a possible destination for a top candidate. Is the Browns owner putting the cart before the horse? Will his decision to interview coaches without the help of his future G.M. cause a top candidate to go elsewhere?

Also, one more observation... There seems to be a lot of news leaks coming from the Browns organization. I haven't seen this much news distributed from any of the other cities currently hiring with the possible exception of the Jets media. Are the Browns (and Jets for that matter) setting themselves up for a major letdown by leaking who they are interviewing next and possibly interested in? I mean, tell me that the Browns and Jet fans weren't disappointed to find out Cowher doesn't want to coach their teams. Now what happens if Cowher ends up in say... Denver and the Browns settle for Marty Schottenheimr as GM (because Pioli wasn't interested) and Brian Schottenheimer as their new HC because Mangini took more money in St. Louis? Obviously, the Browns wouldn't be making the type of splash they were hoping to when they fired Dumb and Dumber. Doesn't it behoove the ownership and front office people to keep their mouths shut on their possible personnel decisions? That's just an outsiders take. What do you guys think?

KC guy--I think all the big players are obvious, so it really doesn't matter much. Unless there is a dark horse, and all they are doing is some CYA stuff for the fans and media.

Not only that, but the Cavs and Indians are doing well considering the economy. 1-7 at home, lots of empty seats at the Cincy game. Lerner doesn't want to take any more chances on losing one of the best cash cows in the NFL (Browns' fans), so he is going to be very transparent.

Very good point.

Stay away from Mangini, Cleveland. He's bad blood. You can do better than that rat.

Actually that is "Stone Hands" Edwards!! The balls bounce off his hands not slip through. Let the "Soldier" play out his current contract, but I would not give him a longer one, the "Soldiers" health won't hold up!

From where I sit it really is a crap shoot whoever we go with. I like Shanahan but his personnel decisions are i question. Mix him up with a talent evaluator and it would be a good pick... but would he agree to that. Pioli, not if Ferentze comes with him.
I would stick with Winslow, dude has great hands when he's not injured and move him to the slot receiver, hell he doesn't block much anyway. I'll bet it goes to Pioli and Josh McDaniels.
Bottom line is it really doesn't matter they are all a crap shoot... and who the hell wants Cower anyway... friggan prima donna!

This is the problem with the browns, they replace proven losers with proven losers..and all over a few dollars....Brown fans sit back, watch the Indians and the cavs,,cause if you get Mangini welcome to 4 or 5 more years of getting blown out by the steelers and Ravens and shut out by the hapless Bengals
