Norton won't fill UCLA's coordinator void
UCLA's search to replace defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker began before Tuesday's confirmation that he had been hired to coach New Mexico State. "I hope to fill the defensive coordinator position in the next few weeks," Rick Neuheisel said in his statement. "Because I felt there was an excellent chance DeWayne would get a head coaching opportunity, I have a list of candidates for the position." Linebackers coach Chuck Bullough and defensive line coach Todd Howard could be considered as coordinator. Neuheisel a year ago expressed interest in coaxing USC assistant Ken Norton back to UCLA. Norton was an All-American linebacker for the Bruins. But this week Norton accused UCLA of using underhanded tactics against USC, saying recruits were being told that Norton -- a main recruiter for the Trojans -- would be joining UCLA if Walker left. Norton said he was staying at USC and Neuheisel, in denying the allegations, implied that Norton would not be a candidate if Walker left.

"Neuheisel a year ago expressed interest in coaxing USC assistant Ken Norton back to UCLA." Interesting.... I wonder if this is a lie against Neuheisel as well? I guess the recruits know who said what to them.

Is this even a story? Of course he wasn't going after what recently had been occurring.

Norton has no loyaly. Years ago he left the Cowboys to join their rivals the 49ers. After his pro career, he joins his alma maters biggest rival...USC. What a loser.

To "Go Cards!" Did you know Norton actually tried to offer UCLA his services (before joining USC)--but was told, "Thanks, but not thanks" by the head coach (I believe it was Dorrell). He offered his services as a graduate assistant to coach the linebackers (which is basically working without pay). UCLA said, "No." The rest is history... A loser is someone who assumes...a loser is someone who doesn't have the facts...I guess your association with the Cards, and their losing ways, has made you, in fact, a LOSER!

You are absolutely right Disaster... Norton went to UCLA first to offer his services for free... And it was Dorrell who told him no thanks... That is when Pete offered Norton a spot with SC... To say Norton has no loyalty is completely outrageous.... I am just lucky he is with us... Hopefully he stays around... I am pretty sure Holt will be in line for another head coaching gig sometime soon... Then he can be the coordinator for SC... If not... That's ok too

What seems most intriguing to me is why Walker would go to a non-program like New Mexico State. What is that a springboard to, selling used cars? Fail there and your career is over. Either Walker was just determined to be a head coach somewhere, anywhere, or coaching a bunch of third-tier recruits for a head coach who has already destroyed two top programs lost its fascination.

Turning around a program like NMSU, which Walker obviously feels like he can do is a GREAT way to get national attention from big time BCS schools. Look at Turner Gill getting all the positive press for what he did at Buffalo. Granted he got inexplicably snubbed by Auburn, but that won't be his last opportunity.
As far as Norton goes, yes Dorrell turned him away a few years ago. Dorrell made a lot of mistakes that UCLA continues to pay for....but there is no reason to think that Norton would be able to take the reigns of a DC after his very limited experience as a position coach.

Another Trojan-Bruin story is that after Dewayne Walker left USC for the NFL that he was offered the job at UCLA and asked Pete Carroll his opinion. Pete said it's a dead end job and he shouldn't take it. Walker went anyway, and while the 30 year old Co-ordinators that worked under Carroll with Dewayne are getting head coaching jobs at Washington, Tenessee, and Ole Miss, DeWayne Walker is just trying to escape Westwood.
Sometimes goodbye is a 2nd chance.

Get real...this is a business. If your competitor offered you a huge raise....dont tell me for a second you wont leave. Business is business.......
Right now, staying at USC would do better for his career than going to UCLA......

After your statement and displaying to every how uninformed you are.......YOU ARE THE REAL LOSER!!!

Right now, no one at UCLA gives a rat's **** what Ken Norton does....
This story has been beaten to death. It's a non-story about something someone MIGHT have said, IF someone left, but uh, "I'm not sure who said it", uh.....
That's enough drama about a friggin' position coach.

I think it works both ways....
But I can understand why Ken would be upset...if rumour has it his name is being used as bait.....in these media scrutinized business.......your name is everything!!

Walker had to get out of UCLA and get a head coaching job in order to be considered for better jobs if he does as well as Turner Gill has done in Buffalo. UCLA, Washington, SDSU had already turned him down and his defenses at UCLA were digressing because UCLA's offenses were offensive and kept his defensive units worn out in the 2nd half. Great move for Walker, esp if he can get 6 wins and a bowl game in the next 2 years...good luck to him!

You can read about that story at Bruinsnation.com if you don't find me a reliable source. It's not insider news, and was a story amongst UCLA losers, like yourself, when DW took the Bruins job 3 seasons ago.

Yeah, Lane Kiffen - fired, Ed Orgeron - fired, Sarkisian (will eventually be fired) - nice track record for SC coordinators.
Wonder why Pete was trying to steer Walker away from UCLA, see USC v UCLA 2006.

Very true...also, sandy underwear, kiffin was head coach of the raiders for how long before being fired? 1 season, Al Davis drank the usc kool aid and thought he was good, which he is not. Now he is going to be horrible with the vols and be fired in the blink of an eye. Only OC worth a damn that came out of sc is Norm Chow, and he is a bruin now. You are the only loser who thinks those guys are good.

Hey Feo, the point was the opportunities that USC coordinators get vs. ucla. I'm sure Walker prefers NMSU over NFL, Ole Miss, Tennessee or Washington.
Now why is Rick Neweasel having to lie about Norton going to ucla? Sure does follow a pattern that started at Colorado.
Juan.
