Cubs making room for Bradley

The Cubs appear close to clearing a major hurdle in their efforts to sign switch-hitting outfielder Milton Bradley. Sources confirmed Tuesday night that the Cubs and Rockies are close to a trade that will send pitcher Jason Marquis and most of his $9.875 million contract to Colorado for embattled reliever Luis Vizcaino. The Marquis-for-Vizcaino deal, first reported by ESPN, would help the Cubs achieve two offseason goals: acquiring a veteran reliever for a mostly young bullpen and moving enough salary off the books to land a productive left-handed bat, namely Bradley. It has been considered a foregone conclusion throughout most of baseball the last two weeks that Bradley is headed to the Cubs, with mainly the payroll issue delaying the inevitable.

Dude can be a nut case but he is a major league upgrade.

December 31, 2008  09:07 AM ET

I'm not sure I like this potential disaster becoming a reality, especially if his contract is a long one.

December 31, 2008  10:14 AM ET

I think it could be good if he stays healthy. His numbers are great and he has a tough attitude that I think the Cubs have been missing the last couple of seasons.

December 31, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Bradley is a heck of a guy. The Cubs or any team would be lucky to have him. He is passionate and that sometimes gets him into trouble, but nobody can slam the numbers he would bring to your team.

ok i admit he is a great player if ur the cubs, he has exactly what you want in a player...the only problem is charachter issues..i mean you cant get past those when you have such a good chesmitry team...and you cant let him cross piniellas path too many times because i assure you heads will roll and fists will be thrown...

Good Chemistry Team? Two consecutive sweeps in the first round doesn't sound like much chemistry to me. Mabey they have nothing to lose by picking him up after all.

its the cubs... they'll still choke

You need some fresh material, genius.

such as? Milton Bradley will be a terrible addition to this team? Marmol goning to the closer role is going to be a huge mistake? The teams lacks a setup man? They just traded their 5th starter for a salary dump? Ron Santo is a clown and a wife beater? Take your pick smart guy?

And what about the Sux Terd Sider? Their question marks run MUCH deeper. The only role you terd siders will have next year is playing second fiddle to the Cubs(again) and being bitter about it all year long. Enjoy!!

As much as I like Pinella. I live in WA. He worked miracles in his 10 yrs. in Seattle - 7 playoff appearance, 300 wins in 3 yrs., 116 gm. MLB record, the year after year battles with the Yankees.
I truley believe it's not going to matter WHO the Cubs sign though.. Pinella can't get it done in the post season. It was the only knock I had against him the entire 10 years he was here.

December 31, 2008  01:16 PM ET

Please do not sign Bradley. Stop overpaying for marginal tallent.

Sux Terd Sider? What r u 11? Second fiddle my eye, Sox fans understand that the cubs will always be the lovable losers, and garner all the attention, BECAUSE they haven't won anything in 100 years....oh sorry 101 ooops don't wanna short change your cubs...ha ha ha

Damn, there's nothing worse than a loser Sux fan who keeps writing the same thing over and over again. Not that I expected anything original from any of them besides hating. Get a life loser!!

December 31, 2008  02:02 PM ET

It's going to be a long summer Sux fans. Get ready for it.

Sux? Terd Sider. Yup. That description fits the South Side Ghetto scene and their fans to a tee. No sense in changing it. It works too well. And of course the Cubs garner all the attention, something the Sux are always lacking in. Too bad you can't vent your frustrations on your own teams threads, since there are never any anyway. Go poverty siders!!!

reminder the 2.3 million people that attended the Parade when the sox won? I do? I was there? I'm sure u were at home watching Highlight of the 03 bartman game and hanging with Ronnie Wo-wo. Typical cubs **** clown :) I'm sure u r too young to remember but yes the Sox used to outdraw the cubs until the 80's, so they weren't always lacking. Who cares about "attention", it about baseball not all that other bs! The cubs are a buncha nuthing execpt b.s

What will happen first? Lou getting ticked off with Bradley and benching him or Bradley threatening to kick Lou's rear end?

My money is on Lou. He's tough. He'll beat up on Bradley easily.
