Tampa high school coach rips Miami's Shannon
Robert Marve's father wasn't the only one bashing Randy Shannon on Tuesday. Marve's high school coach, Tampa Plant's Robert Weiner, also lashed out and said: ''A player of mine won't play for Randy Shannon'' again. Weiner said tight end Orson Charles, whom UM had been recruiting, definitely won't be attending Miami now. Marve was UM's only Plant player on the roster. Weiner -- who has led Plant to two of the past three state Class 4A football titles, including this year's -- described Shannon's treatment of Marve as ''egregious'' and said Shannon's insistence that Marve cannot transfer to an ACC, SEC or Florida-based school ``is the last line in a series of slaps in the face. It's . . . spitefulness and vengeance.'' Weiner said Shannon and Marve spoke for less than two minutes Tuesday, and the ''last of many cowardly acts was the fact Randy didn't tell him'' about the transfer restrictions. Weiner said that, during last offseason, Marve asked Shannon several times about rumors that he would be suspended, and 'Shannon told him, `Don't worry about it. I'll take care of it.' '' (Marve was suspended for the opener.) ''I've never heard of any coach who disciplines a player eight months after it happened,'' Weiner said.

Plant is going to be a pipeline for one of the big three in FL very shortly. Shannon is going to miss out on some players. Granted he has no shortage of them recruiting the S. FL area but still. Owell... Come on Orson Charles bring it to the Noles! BTW I see Marve going somewhere in the Big Easy I mean Big East..

The Marve's and now his high school coach all want Miami to be the old Miami. The Miami that looks the other way when spoiled brats like Marve don't want to go to class but never seem to miss a football practice. I noticed he was never talking to a teacher and was late for practice. Engene Marve should make his son be accountable for his actions. The fact is Randy Shannon didn't force Marve to miss four classes. Marve missed four classes and he was punished for it. Marve also vandelize a vehicle and was punished for it. He needs to try his crybaby act to another school and be happy. If he's so great what does it matter if he doesn't play in the ACC, SEC or a Florida school. The Big 12 seems to be the best conference right now go there. Maybe they will let you miss class and still play.

Whats the deal with these Florida High School coaches....with all the "a player of mines will never attend<blank> university?" I remember some idiot at St. Aquinos...or St. Thomas Aquinos...whatever the name was.....made a similar statement....saying that players at his school will never play for Alabama. Its really not their decision.
I really like Shannon...and wish him much success...but this situation makes him look spiteful and petty. Release the guy without the unbelievably ridiculous stipulations.

now i see where robert got it from....dad and old coach seem to coddle the player....shannon was in a bad situation....jacory harris(miami-northwestern high) versus robert marve(tampa-plant high)...he had to make a tough decision somewhere...either alienate the city of tampa recruiting or alienate dade county....does it really look good on either part when shannon makes the stipulations or when robert, pops and his old coach are crying about it....HE IS A GROWN MAN LET HIM DEAL WITH IT...

It is fairly routine for a school to restrict an athlete's transfer to a school outside of that current school's conference. Happens all the time. Restricting an athlete's choices to include another, wholly separate conference, as well as the recruit's entire home state, is without precedent. Regardless of your opinion of Marve, this is grossly unfair, not to mention EXTREMELY petty. I'm not even sure it's legal.
That being said, I don't understand why a school would restrict a kid's transfer ANYWHERE. If they're not good enough to play/start on your team, why should you care if he transfers in-conference?

you are way off on this one bro..
there was tampering going on big time, starting with this lame hs coach, and marves father, and some SEC schools (mainly auburn)
they are both cowards and are getting everything they deserve
i do feel bad for robert marve though, his football career is prob ruined thanks to his father
svt.

That's still in effect. You can't stop a kid from going where he wants, but no Alabama coach is allowed onto that school's campus due to a friendship between the school adminstrator and the Shulas. It's silly, it's stupid, it's ignorant. But, that guy behind it is silly, stupid, and ignorant to the hilt.

What do you know of Auburn tampering? Do you have any proof (I'm not disbelieving you, just wondering if you have something to back that up).

Shannon is getting control of a program that excelled with out of control players for many years before imploding under his predecessor. For that he deserves support. However, by extending Marve's ban to include the SEC and the entire state of Florida Shannon has gone over the edge. No one is a demigod. Shannon should relent on the SEC ban to show good faith.

It is far more egregious for a high school coach to tell a high school kid where he can go to school than a college coach to tell a man where he can transfer. I do find it interesting that at USC the talented players are willing to compete for playing time but at other schools that attitude does not prevail. All Shannon wanted was for both quarterbacks to get playing time so that if either was thrown into a game he would not feel unready to perform.

the tampering may be true but truth be told that is how the game is played. and unless he has proof he can't let this become personal.
Randy has made this personal and it will be Randy who pays the biggest price as recruits look at this more closely. Someone needs to tell Randy that he is the adult and that the kids are looking at his actions way more then his words. I would be scared sh@tless to sign with him after this. I would think even if Marve deserves some of this that you can't throw mud without getting mud on you and that is what Randy is doing. He has gotten mud on himself and as an outsider it is very easy to see and I wonder why his advisors arent slapping him upside the head to stop this childishness. he is putting your future recruits at risk, you already lost one from Plant over this how many more will it take before you realize that the head coach's actions are looked at by new recruits. This is by far one of the STUPIDEST actions I've seen any head coach made. If this were happening at UF I would be pissed not at the recruit but at the coach. Truth be told, Randy is doing UF and FSU a big favor on this one. Geez does he ever remind me of the Zook years at UF.

No matter how good of a coach you might be,if you piss off the high school coach's your recruiting is dead and so is your career.Shannon seems like he has attitude problems with more than a few people. I think Marve is probably a punk but if the kid wants to leave, let him leave. Let him go to any school he wants. How many times has doing that truly come back to haunt a team. It sure didn't happen with Brock Berlin

I think what everyone wrote here is correct to say that, there is a bigger issue..
What do RESPONSIBILITY come into the picture.. What I hear is your job is on the line because it is the right thing and the best interest of Miami...
I concur it looks petty but Mavre needs to GROW UP... If he gets fired over this, it just supports that college football is nothing more AA/AAA of NFL.... I think he might be extreme on the restrictions but I do concur a bit on restrictions... Mavre does know the game plan (until a new OC comes in play) and you need to set an example.. If he did not go strict on this matter, the team is going to implode because everyone would see it as a slap in the hand and do not take responsibilities seriously...
I hate to place someone as an example but how many mistakes a kid makes before he gets what is coming?

I have to agree with dbrhee: It is time that the player to responsibilty for their actions.
Shannon is doing to right thing, he trying to build the program back up to where it use to be.

Shannon is doing the right thing. If a player is choosing schools and thinks about which school will be easier to transfer from if things don't go their way, that school is better off without them. Shannon is trying to run a clean, no bad publicity program and Marve keeps getting into trouble. Then Shannon is supposed to turn around and tell him he can go to any non-conference school of his choosing? So let me guess Gator_Nation. When Miami players get in trouble then the coach can't control his program. When a Miami coach is hard on a player then the coach does not know what he is doing. Part of the reason Shannon was hired was to bring discipline to the program. This citation looks bad not because of Shannon but because Marve is up set that his prearranged plan with another school is not falling through. If for some reason after his freshmen year Tim Tebow wanted to transfer to FSU, don't think for a minute Meyer would have sat by a let it happen.

It's gonna suck if a player out of Plant really wants to play at UM, or their best offer would have come from the U and now cause their coach is an inmature child they wont be able to have that opportunity...
