Mack Brown: OSU's Pryor will win national title

07:26 AM ET 12.31 | Texas wanted Terrelle Pryor to be the next Vince Young, the quarterback to whom he is most often compared. Instead Pryor eventually chose Ohio State on March 19, six weeks after national football letter of intent signing began. Pryor delayed his decision in part because of divided attention due to basketball. He ultimately chose between Ohio State and Michigan, with Penn State and Oregon as the other finalists. "There is no doubt Ohio State will win a national championship with Terrelle before he leaves," predicted Texas coach Mack Brown, whose team must defend against Pryor in Monday's Fiesta Bowl. "Vince redshirted, so it's a little bit different," Brown said. "Terrelle may be further along right now than Vince. Vince could run, but I'm not sure we were at 63 percent completions (until his junior season). Both are great players. He'll do for them what Vince did for us."

From all tOSU fans thanks Mac for your vote of confidence. Now just have your team lay an egg on Jan 5th and vote tOSU #1 in your 2009 preseason coaches ballot and we might believe you.

i highly doubt OSU will win a NC while pryor is there, nothing against pryor, just talking about the entire team

GO BUCKS!

Coach Brown is just a nice guy... He just wants them to feel they have a chance... I don't think Pryor will ever be as good as VY was in college... VY is like a 6'5 LB playing QB with WR speed

December 31, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Pryor is a beast but the title game is a long shot. I don't think he'll stay 4 years either so that leaves 2 years to get it done.

December 31, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Keep studying up on how the Penn State D gets it done, Mac.

Wow, you are way off on this one... Pryor is 6'6", faster than Young AND can actually throw the ball.

Not going to make a prediction for the game vs Texas b/c Pryor is a true freshman, but when it is all said and done Pryor will be MUCH better than Young.

As for Mack Brown... Class act all the way. Texas is a great program, and this guy is a great coach. Wish I could talk a little trash here, but you just can't. Hope OSU wins, but that's as far as I will go

December 31, 2008  10:02 AM ET

I think the odds are better that Pryor would win a Heisman instead of a National Championship.

I think Mack overlooked the Penn State factor, and the fact that any team that OSU might meet in a Championship game is going to be a good quality team....no guaranteed automatic victories like the rest of their Conference competition(and I use that term lightly)

December 31, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Good to know the QB is the ONLY thing that matters... I guess we have 3 more years to find out if Mack has gone senile or not.

when Pryor sets records like VY then come talk to me... Pryor doesn't have the agility that VY had in college either.... VY would shake u and then run u over and then dust everyone to the endzone... Thats why he gets talks about being one of the Greats of College football

Yeah Mack"CrybabY" Brown has got class, too bad its third and fourth class as witnessed by his phone call to the talking heads during the national telecast of the OU-Ok St. game. Whining about how Texas should go to the Big XII game instead of OU. Bringing up how Tex beat OU but forgetting how Texas Tech beat Texas. Yeah he got class allright. Low Class!!!

Quite a prediction to say Pryor will be much better than Young... especially considering Young's last game against USC when he totalled almost 500 yards of total offense. Pryor does not have to be as good or better than Young... just as good as he can be.

Is Pryor coming into college with better credentials than Ronald Curry did at North Carolina back in 1997? I doubt it... Curry was a 2 sport star with Heisman written all over him. Sometimes it does not develop into fruition.

Keep in mind, Ohio State was preseason number 1 the year Florida played them in the NC game and was number 1 from the beginning until after the title game. They have been ranked in the preseason top 5 every year since 2002 and still a championshp contender.

If Pryor develops into that "special" player there is every reason to believe the Buckeyes can get another championship.

If stating your case to convince someone that you're more deserving than someone else is whining, then anybody that has ever had a job interview is a whiner. Btw, I'm talking about a real job interview not the one like you had at Mickey D's.

Not so fast my friend.... MR Stoops was on tv doing the samething... "we beat the #3 team by 40... I don't see why we shouldn't go to the big 12 champ game" so don't try to say Mac was crying unless u are going to talk about everyone else as well... even Tech's Leach was on tv preaching his case

December 31, 2008  10:52 AM ET

I'll believe it when I see it... Oh yeah... FIGHT ON!!

December 31, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Somebody fell asleep over the last couple of years.
West Virginia's Pat White was the next Vince Young.

December 31, 2008  11:08 AM ET

You can't compare Pat White and Vince Young. Apples and oranges. Pat White = 6'2", 185. Vince Young = 6'5", ~240. Young runs you over, White runs past you. Different style QB's. I think that White is more accurate over the course of his college career than Young and White didn't have nearly the WR corps that Vince had. If White was at Florida he would have been the Heisman winner, if he played at Texas he would have won the Heisman. Unfortunately, WVU will never get the recognition in spite of playing well against anyone in a conference and at a University that will never see the recruiting classes that the better schools get. WVU is undefeated in bowl games with White at the helm and beat the pants off OSU last year. Remember that year jfrog? That was the year that Stoops was saying OSU deserved to be in the title game. The year that he went crying to the media that his Sooners were the best team in football. The year he had most every broadcaster saying the same thing. What happened then? Oh yeah, OSU got their butts kicked from one end of the field to the other for 4 quarters and it would have been worse if WVU hadn't committed penalty after penalty in a very undisciplined football game. So don't talk about Brown being the "crybaby". Sorry, vented there for a minute.

Pryor was also looking at WVU before RR left. He was the first person RR called when he jumped ship to Michigan and that is why Michigan went into the running for him. He ultimately went to OSU because he realized that Michigan would be a work in progress for 3 years. Smart choice by him. Will he win a championship game? Who knows?

He is a true Freshman... The guy has every ability that Young had but is bigger faster, stronger, and CAN ACTUALLY THROW A FOOTBALL (also no word yet, but I think Pryor isn't trying to kill himself either which is another plus over Vince Young)
