Broncos interested in Patriots coordinator
Moving quickly to assemble candidates to replace fired head coach Mike Shanahan, the Denver Broncos are expected to formally request permission to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, according to an NFL source. The Broncos' job is highly regarded in NFL circles, because of owner Pat Bowlen and Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler. The Broncos have already scheduled interviews with New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo tomorrow and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach Raheem Morris for Monday. The Cleveland Browns requested permission to speak with McDaniels earlier this week.

Josh McDaniels does not make sense. They might as well kept Shanahan if they wanted an offensive mind. Spagnuolo will be the choice and they will keep offensive staff in place.

McDaniels' interview is Sunday. It'll be Spagnuolo, though.

Mike Shanahan was fired because of the defense. Promoting someone else's offense coordinator does not make sense.
On the flip side, Josh McDaniels just got a 50 TD season out of Tom Brady. I'm sure Denver is looking at Jay Cutler and all that potential.
If Denver hires McDaniels, they'll need to get a proven defensive coordinator to hold down the other side of their game. Maybe Romeo Crennel? Think defense Denver... defense.
