In what a Twins official described as "a minor procedure," All-Star catcher Joe Mauer recently had surgery to eliminate a kidney obstruction. Twins General Manager Bill Smith said that Mauer is recovering from the Dec. 22 surgery and is expected to be ready for spring training when pitchers and catcher report to Fort Myers, Fla., on Feb. 14.

When the Yankees want someone, they've proven that they are willing to overpay to get them.... nothing anyone can do about it until they get a hard cap.....

Mauer should drink a beer every so often. That will unblock the kidneys!

As for his status, I cannot imagine the Twins opening up their pocketbooks to keep him if possible. He's a hometown boy and the best catcher in baseball right now.

The Yankees have Romine, Cervelli, and Montero. They don't need an catcher..maybe a stop gap.
