D-Back's CEO wants to buy Padres

Jeff Moorad's departure on Friday from the Diamondbacks seems just as stunning as his arrival 4 1/2 years ago. Moorad, a former player agent who unexpectedly bought into the club's ownership group in 2004, resigned as chief executive officer so he could pursue the purchase of the San Diego Padres, for which he said he has an "agreement in principle." The Diamondbacks named club President Derrick Hall to succeed Moorad. Hall's title will be president and CEO. A team source said Moorad's stake in the Diamondbacks is in the 15-20 percent range. The team last year was valued by Forbes at $379 million.

If Moorad's intent is to take Peavy off the block, create discussion with Trevor Hoffman to somehow get him back, and vow to somehow, sometime soon get Khalil Greene back from the Cards (things I realize he cannot even discuss until this transaction actually takes place), then I, a Padres fan, am all for this. If not, I'll still have the same sick feeling I've had since the Hot Stove reared its ugly head in San Diego.

Dude... focus on the team you already have and try to win the weak NL West for once

What the? EastCoastQueef, you are back wrapping your lips around Khalil's Green again huh? This is insane. You just revealed how little you know about baseball again as the first comment for all to see. Good Job bud. Now hopefully the rest of this site can see what an idiot you are and how sick we all are of your oral diarrhea. Khalil Green? Get him back somehow? You truly are cluelessZing ZangZung

Tony.... First of all of course I realize Greene cannot be "gotten" back. It wasn't a realistic thought. I assumed (wrongfully) you'd be intelligent enough to realize that. Had you been a productive, longtime member of the site you'd understand where I was coming from, and my intent to state the ridiculous. Thanks for all the mature, coherent, classy fanmails too. You're the face of what fannation has become. Keep up the good work.

Another brilliant member of fannation. After 1998, the Padres also most recently won the NL West back-to-back in 2005 and 2006, and were a win away in 2007 before the implosion.
