Cubs players OK with Bradley
When general manager Jim Hendry called Ryan Dempster, Derrek Lee and Ted Lilly last month to pass on the news about Tribune Co.'s filing for bankruptcy, he presumably told them about the possibility of signing free agent outfielder Milton Bradley. If the Cubs' leaders weren't worried about the addition of the controversial slugger, Hendry would have no reason to be concerned about clubhouse chemistry being affected. Dempster, for one, said the Cubs will greet Bradley with open arms. "Good player, man, and everything I hear from guys he played with is good," he said. "I know he has that reputation of being a hothead, but you hear from guys who played with him, and they all say he's a great teammate. Obviously, he'll bring a pretty powerful dynamic to our lineup." Barring a snag in talks, the switch-hitting Bradley should be wrapped up before the Cubs Convention in two weeks. Washington and Tampa Bay are also negotiating with Bradley, who is said to prefer Chicago.

What the national sports media chooses not tell anyone is that Bradley was a reportedly clubhouse favorite in San Diego in 2007. The Padres loved the guy, despite the incident with that umpire - which was proven to be provoked by the ump. Any fan who thinks Bradley would not be a great addition to their team is crazy. I'd take him back in San Diego in a heartbeat.

If this is really an issue with the Cubs players, maybe Bradley ought to sign elsewhere where he would be welcomed with open arms. Bradley was well liked in the Rangers clubhouse.

Cubs need someone with energy and an edge. Just hope he can teach the rest of the team how to hit in October.

Good move by Hendry to at least test the waters with some of the vets on the team just to see what they have heard. Cubs could really use his bat, pitching staff is nearly complete, just try and add a couple of pieces at this point.

This is a great move by them, he gives them the big bat in the middle of the lineup from the left side they need, but i still dont like the move of moving Mark Derosa to Cleveland and just hopefully Fontenot can produce what Mark Derosa was producing for the Cubs. I would love to Hendry get in the mix with the Padres for Peavy once again. Or maybe Brian Roberts again???

This guy is not the answer! What 20 games he actually played in the outfield last year. This guy will be injured for half the season you can bet on that. What a waste of money and a loss of a good player (Derosa) to sign him. From all reports that he is a great guy in the clubhouse, what about when things get rough? The Cubs are already in a state of walking on egg shells to win the world series. This guy brings tension to a situation that already has too much...ie last two playoffs, swept. I can see it now..Bradley hits a high fly to the outfield, Bradley thinks it's gone, he loosens his batting gloves while walking to first but only forgetting he is playing in Wrigley in May and the wind is blowing in of the Lake 30 mph. It hits the wall Bradley tries to hustle to stretch it into a double close play at second but is thrown out by Ankiel. Bradley disagrees with the Ump goes into a tandrum and injures his knee. Lou gets fired up, bumps the ump gets thrown out of the game and is suspended for a week. The Cubs can't find their way lose the next seven making Lou put the blame on Bradley for the start of the Cubs decline. Lou and Bradley get into it prompting Steve Stone to come back to WGN and cause a stir because he was the first to break the news. Ha, and I'm a Cubs fan. Don't get this guy.

I'm whitesox fan and had some of the same concerns with Carl Everett but he never had and blow-ups and he helped them win a championship so maybe Bradley's attitude concern is overblown.

If you look at Bradley's one blow up last year it was because an announcer was talking smack about him. You know maybe if people would leave his past alone, he may not keep repeating it. I am a big Cubs fan and hope they sign him and he proves everyone wrong. The Cubs just need to make a few more moves including getting a fifth starter. If you look at the division, I think they are already in the playoffs, just make a few more moves and who knows maybe this is the year.

I agree. Carl was good for us down the stretch. Bradley is similar and probably would not have outbursts on a Cubs roster with first place potential. Hoping for Chi to have two first place teams come October.

I love when the morons bring this up.
He didn't hurt his knee "throwing a tantrum because he disagreed with the ump." The umpire accused him of throwing his bat at the home plate umpire after a called third strike the last at bat, when he was clearly just tossing it towards the dug out like after any other inning ending strike out, and when Bradley hit a single the next at bat he proceeded to pick a fight with Bradley by calling him a "worthless piece of poop"(In not as nice words that would get filtered), which was when Bradley blew up and had to be held back. The umpire was suspended without pay for the rest of the season for the incident.

Carl Everett will forever hold a place in my heart for that Sports Illustrated interview some years ago.

Clearly you didn't pick up on the sarcasm. He argued and hurt his knee one way or the other it happened yelling at a ump. Loosen up buddy.

Wow, forget that he has anger issues that have surfaced with ever team he has been on. When it happens over and over, he is not a victim of circumstance or people bringing up his past, he is the problem. A spade is a spade. Even without his emotional outbursts, the guy can not stay healthy. Even with DH'ing 90% of the time, he only played in a 120 some games last year. What will he provide an NL team? 81 games?

luckily, you were on the field and can provide an exact account.

That was Todd Helton's exact account, the first baseman for the opposing team, the Rockies. Who they also happened to be neck and neck in a divisional race with five games left to play, so I guess he had lots of reasons to lie to cover up for Bradley throwing a temper tantrum for no reason, right?
It wasn't the first time Mike Winters had been reprimanded for inappropriate conduct in the field. He told Charlie Hayes to go **** himself after he kicked him out for arguing balls and strikes back in 1998.
