There was some talk that after being rebuffed by the Marlins on Hanley Ramirez, the Red Sox might have interest in Rangers shortstop Michael Young, but according to major league sources, that's not the case.

Until the Red Sox can dump Lugo on someone why would they be looking for someone else. Lowrey looks to the the short stop of the future

January 4, 2009  10:08 AM ET

Neither did any other teams Mistersillytexasrangersgm!!!!Do you know Chuck Norris?????

Young may be the best all-around shortstop in baseball. As a Sox fan, if the team gave up Lowrie, Buchholz and a prospect or two to get him, I'd be thrilled.

I wouldn't give up on Lowrie though unless you could get Young to sign long term. Then there still is Lugo you'd need to deal with.

True. Lugo to Detroit for Willis made sense, because they need a SS, and that deal would erase Willis' salary from the Tigers' books.

I wish the Globe would talk about other teams than the Rangers. Before it was Salty or Teagarden for the dreks of the Red Sox and now Young. The Rangers aren't interested in getting bad trades from the Red Sox.

I thought that would have been a good deal for both teams. Putting Willis on a team where he doesn't have to be the ace would have taken a lot of pressure off of him

wait didnt the red sox deal lugo?

Why wouldn't the Rangers be interested in getting a bad trade from BoSox...they've been interested in bad trades everytime they make one.

The Rangers are always interested in bad trades, why wouldn't they want to let the BoSox in on the action...can you say Adrian Gonzalez and Chris Young for whom or how bout John Dank's for...

You guys have to admit that they did get some nice players in the Tex trade.Teagarden and Neftali just to name two of the five.

January 4, 2009  07:28 PM ET

Sorry I meant Salty not Teagarden

"Fairy tales can come true when your YOUNG at heart" - I would rather have a YOUNG Lowry at this stage of the game !!!

January 4, 2009  09:41 PM ET

Michael Young is 32. There is no way you give up Lowry to get him. Bucholtz is even a questionable trade piece.

January 4, 2009  09:57 PM ET

Why on earth would the Sox want Young? 32 years old and coming off a .284, 12 HR, .741OPS season? Lowrie can already put up those numbers.

January 4, 2009  10:37 PM ET

Sox fans. What is a Lawrie? I do know Michael Young is one of the top clutch hitters in MLB. Even if Young is traded which I hope doesnt happen, I would hope the Rangers could get more than a steakhouse out of the deal! Rangers has a SS in waiting so I hope Young moves back to second and Kinsler moves to LF or 3RD. Rangers cannot afford to lose a consummate professional like Mike. He is a great situational hitter and one when he bats you know going in he aint skeered! Trust me, yall dont want him!

January 5, 2009  12:13 AM ET

Young to the Red Sox makes a lot of sense. He is a gold glover who would fill a big hole in the infield. Last year, playing with 2 broken fingers, he failed to reach 200 hits for the 1st time in 4 seasons. He will be healthy this year, and back to being one of the best clutch hitters in baseball. He is always amongst the league leaders in hitting with RISP.
