Miami believes Marves contacted banned schools

Robert Marve's father, Eugene, said Miami's decision Friday to allow Marve to transfer to any SEC school excluding Florida, Tennessee and LSU is ''ridiculous,'' and he will appeal. UM said it ''has reason to believe'' the Marve family or others on behalf of Marve contacted those schools regarding Marve's potential transfer during the season, before he was given his release by UM. Eugene Marve denied that accusation Saturday: ``There has been no tampering.'' Eugene Marve said his son wants to be able to investigate all SEC schools. (Robert is believed to have strong interest in Tennessee and Florida.) Eugene Marve said more than a dozen schools, including Cincinnati, have offered a scholarship.

It's hard to believe who is telling the truth in this story. I am sure the Marve's may have done some investigating ahead of time but Miami is acting petty here. As long as the kid doesnt go to a school that you will play in the next 2 to 3 years then you won't have to play against him. Shoot, even if he does, you just beat him.

Let him go where he wants. Simple. It didn't work out for him at Miami, and he deserves the right to go find a school where it will work. Tennessee for example would be a good place for him to go. He seems to have the tools to succeed in a pro-style offense.

I understand putting restrictions on a transfer in special cases; if their was indeed tampering and Marves' Dad is the "stage parent" he appears to be, I can understand Shannon's revised position on the transfer. We may never know the full story, but if Marve's Dad was "sincere" about the prostate cancer and having his so close to home, I wonder how Knoxville & Baton Rouge accomplish that need for hvaing him close to home.

I think bot sided need to agree to some type of arbitration and learn to live with the whatever ruling occurs.

Let him go where he wants to go. This reminds me of that Mustain drama which resulted in Nutt leaving Arkansas and making Ole Miss a team again. Oh, and what happened to that QB egomaniac at USC? How's that playing time?

January 4, 2009  12:15 PM ET

Of course Marves was investingating other schools.

He wanted to see what schools he could play at, not have to attend class, and still play football.

Eugene Marve seems to be another in a long line of interfering parents who will ultimately be the downfall of their kid's career.

Tennesssee needs a QB so badly...please let him come. Anything is better than Jonathan Crompton.

when a player decides to transfer, he cuts all ties with his former team. The school should have no control over what school the player goes to.

first off there was tampering and no question about it... I personally saw Marve talking to Lane Kiffin on the sidelines of Plant's playoff game... of course Kiffin was recruiting Orson Charles but I am sure Plants coach and ex HS coach for Marve set that up real nice.
The "Others" that the U mentions in their statement is Marves HS coach!

Whats the problem if more than a dozen schools have already offered him a free ride? Take one of them and move on. Appeal all you want, Miami can do what they are doing. It is not uncommon. They could make it so he misses a year and/or set even more restrictions. Make the best of it and move on....Hey Dad, I think your kid has bigger issues than just football. Yo might want to focus on those a little bit.

thank you to the 2 posters above me, you have restored my faith that some people on here actually know what they are talking about!

Coaches can leave whenever they want to go wherever they want. they can sign contract extensions and then leave the next week.

Imagine if schools could place restrictions on coaches like Miami has put on Marve!

I think Marve should be free to go wherever he wants. And if Old Man Marve is determined to see that happen, I suspect the Courts will agree.

I suspect you have no idea what you are talking about.. do you think this is something new, coaches placing restrictions on players transfering?

fwiw, the 2 others who transfered from the U had no restrictions placed on them because they didnt get involved with TAMPERING like some others

At this point, is ANYONE really concerned about where this kid transfers to? (As long as it's not YOUR team!) Just go somewhere and **** about it.
