The Marlins are interested in signing ex-Marlin Carl Pavano to a deal worth $1 million with incentives but were told Pavano wants $2 million. If any of the Marlins' five projected starters ( Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, Chris Volstad, Anibal Sanchez or Andrew Miller) is injured, Florida could turn to Rick VandenHurk or Ryan Tucker unless it adds a Pavano-type veteran.

Man, I'm gonna give up on robbing trains and selling liqour to injuns and start taking money from moron baseball GM's.

January 4, 2009  09:26 AM ET

Is there a bridge to sell?

January 4, 2009  10:10 AM ET

What a coincidence, I just had my morning cup of coffee and I, too, am interested in taking a Pavano.

January 4, 2009  10:10 AM ET

Nobody asked me,but I think Anibel is a pretty name for a big strapping baseball pitcher!!!!

January 4, 2009  10:38 AM ET

After we just signed his old buddy AJ to a MASSIVE deal-
I really can't honestly laugh at any other Gm if they want
to take a flier on carl......

I don't think he was really a bad guy- he just obvously
wasn't ready for NY & his stupidity cost him dearly with us fans

January 4, 2009  11:48 AM ET

Would it surprise everyone if Pavano came back this year and won 12 games with some team that signed him for a one-year deal?

It could happen.

January 4, 2009  12:00 PM ET

A 1 million dollar deal is nothing, even if you only get 5 or 6 wins out of the guy he's paid for himself.

Or, if he pitches 10 innings and goes back on the DL for the rest of the year, you've just paid him $100 K per inning.

That's 1 million less the owner can put in his pocket. That payroll is already a millions less then he gets from other teams (The Yanks mostly) paying the luxury tax.

Is this a joke... Pavano was one of the biggest busts of the Yankees. He will be lucky to pitch 10 innings... They would be better off paying someone in the stands to pitch...lol

yes but there isn't a team out there that can't afford the risk. A million is nothing and if he gives you some innings in spot starts then he's worth it

If he had any integrity, he should offer to sign with the yankees for the league minimum and attempt to earn some of the money the yankees have given him these past few years. This would go a long way in earning some respect back.

January 4, 2009  05:24 PM ET

Anybody that screws the Yankees can't be half bad.

Go ahead, give him a try! He pitched horrible this past Fall. He can't handle big league hitting anymore. He really only ever had 1 good season.

I bet he has a good year, that's all I'm gonna say. I bet he does.

January 4, 2009  06:21 PM ET

Ha HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

January 4, 2009  07:25 PM ET

Whats up with these players that collect all of this money for absolutely nothing and than once healthy they leave for somewhere "closer to home" for a bit more money. I'm not talking about Pavano but others like an even bigger bust in Hampton. the Braves paid this guy like $45 M over 3 years and gave him another chance by trading for him and he gets a bit of health and can't wait to turn down there offer. The guy should throw ih the next 3 years for free just for wasting there resources. Greedy SOB's

January 4, 2009  07:36 PM ET

Seems to me after he "raped" the Yankees for all those bucks he should just whooore himself out to the lowest bidder - "mea culpa" !!!

January 5, 2009  04:22 AM ET

Pavano should sign with the Marlins, win 12-15 games and then call Brian Cashman up. Then, he will get his AJ Burnett type of contract......oh, that's right, he already did!
