L.T. uncertain for divisional playoff

Whether LaDainian Tomlinson can run in next weekend's divisional playoff game at either Tennessee or Pittsburgh is unclear, although judging from Saturday night's events without access or a working knowledge of MRI results, it surely doesn't look good. Tomlinson declined to project, saying he'd wait to see with everyone else, take it "day by day." That's pretty much what he and the Chargers did all last week. Tomlinson was withheld from practice, and while he said he could tell from just the first warm-ups that his strained groin and abdominal muscle wouldn't let him do much, he gave it a shot and even did enough to score a short touchdown before calling it a night after five first-half carries. "I went as long as I could," Tomlinson said. "On the TD run, I felt like I was making it worse. Even on that (3-yard) play, I felt like I was dragging my leg through it."

LT is injured two playoffs in a row. Coincidence or is he just getting old?

Darren Sproles ran all over the Colts. I'd say they don't need LT but who would want to start a 180lb running back vs either Pittsburgh or Tennessee.

Michael Bennett looked good against the Colts considering he hasn't played at all.

Thought the Colts had it in hand last night. Those stupid penalites gave it back to SD. Not saying they wouldn't have scored anyway, but why hand it to them. I just don't like SD. I think it's Rivers that makes me dislike them so much.

Do you think any Chargers fan will start with the 'we won the playoffs without him so who needs him' the way the Giants fans did with Shockey and the Super Bowl?

There is nothing to like about Rivers. The Chargers should ask for the crew of officials every game. They sure did not hurt them. On the face mask penalty in Overtime, the OL was holding and then had his hands in the face of the DL. I don't think Dungy was real happy about some of those calls. Some were penalties, but holding has not been called all year, then his OL gets three calls in four plays on them in the fourth quarter.
Matters not, the Charger team I saw last night is not going far.

if LT doesnt return to form and healthy he will be gone

My youngest was yelling his head off after that face mask call. The officiating in all games is becoming questionable. Not sure if the refs need a refresher course but they sure need something.

I saw a lot of holding on the Chargers O line that wasn't called. I mean a lot. Seems like every time a Colt defender came around the corner he was held. Right in front of the officials too.

Hate to say it but that call was a good call. It was blatant. However, how about Freeney getting his face rearranged by the offensive guard/tackle right in front of the ref? What, no illegal use of hands, hands to face? Practically had it down his throat.

Lady's Coach Belicat...i am glad it is not just my thoughts. The level of consistent officiating in the NFL was not good. What constituted being a penalty would change from game to game and crew to crew. The League will never openly admit it, but they have a problem and they need to address it....I thought it was as bad as I have ever seen it....And I was truly trying to be objective...

Lady's Coach Belicat....This may interest you ( a Pats Fan ), the Pats are going to tag Cassel.. Here is the link. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3809444

I really did not think they would, It only gives them about $8 million to play with, unless they unload some players.

"However, the cap jumps to $123 million per team, which gives the Patriots $94 million to manage the rest of their roster."

Maybe this is what they were counting on when they made the final decision. Truly, I am not a numbers person and don't really understand all the salary restrictions. That's why I pay such close attention to what you post about it. :)

My son was screaming about the fact that the ref called a face mask penalty on one player but not the other player when they both had their hands on each other's face mask during the same play. Either that or my son and I saw the play wrong.

Okay, I'll say it...the Chagers don't need LT, they just won without him. Regardless of bad calls or non calls, they usually happens on both sides of the ball, and we at home always see it different because we see all and know all.....lol

The Chargers fans won't do that but maybe they should. If you're going to evaluate a player by his recent performance, I question whether LT isn't reaching the end of the road. The Chargers fans will never say that because of their ongoing love affair with LT just like the Rams fans love affair with Marshall Faulk after he was LONG past his prime.

On the other hand, the comparison to Shockey is a bit unfair because Shockey was such a disruptive element in the locker room and so inconsistent on the field. Over the years, LT has been a class act and performed at such a high level.

In the end, I think the Chargers will be making a big mistake if they let Sproules go in free agency just as the Pats would if they let Cassell get away. The reality is that neither Cassell nor Sproules are going anywhere because Brady and LT are hurt worse than their respective teams are acknowledging.

January 4, 2009  06:37 PM ET

Lady's Coach Belicat...As of Dec. 15, 2008 the Pats have $101 million in contract Cap salaries for 2009. The addition of $14 million for Cassel puts the total at $116, leaving app. $7 million under the expected $123 million cap for 2009. In 2010 the Pats have only $64 million in contract cap money. They can back load some contracts to that ( an uncapped year as of now ) to make room. It can be done, and must be done that way to fill out the roster for next year. I suspect there will be a lot of money " laundering" done by teams this year. That uncapped year is going to make this off season a real circus. Hate to see it really, teams with owners and deep pockets are going to come out ahead. It will be like when the cap first came out guys like DeBartolo ( later convicted of financial crimes) of the 49ers made a mockery of the whole thing......Don't care if that team EVER wins a game again...I call it Pay Back....Give the Pats credit, they did it the right way. Don't care what anybody says.

I used the Shockey reference because he's the one most Giants fans were saying that about (we won without him.....who needs him) about LaDainian Tomlinson (I refuse to call him LT...LT is and always will be Lawrence Taylor) because of his injury, not because I thought he was in any way disruptive or a team distraction. I do apologize for the impression I gave in that previous post. =-]
