Shanahan to Cowboys in 2010?

Just as many questioned Bill Cowher's intentions, they have done the same with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has insisted Wade Phillips will return as his coach next season. Now there is yet another signal, maybe the strongest to date. Despite contemplating it, the Cowboys will not make a run at former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, at least not this season, according to a Cowboys source. A run at Shanahan near or at the end of next season for the Cowboys still is entirely possible. Jones and Shanahan know each other from the time the Broncos and Cowboys have scrimmaged against each other the past two summers. Shanahan attended Eastern Illinois, the alma mater of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. And when the Broncos fired coach Wade Phillips after the 1994 season, they replaced him with Shanahan

Won't happen ,Shanahan likes to have alot of control over his situation. Jerry Jones needs sycophantic speaker boxes that will do it his way.

I hope not!

Shanny deserves better then that!

January 4, 2009  08:26 AM ET

this will happen... you can bank on it...

January 4, 2009  08:28 AM ET

Mike Shanahan + Jerry Jones = 1989 Raiders all over again.

January 4, 2009  08:39 AM ET

I can't see a reputable coach wanting anything to do with the Cowboys... at least until Jerry Jones brings in a G.M. who isn't just a "Yes" man.

January 4, 2009  08:40 AM ET

As long as Jerry Jones dabbles with the teams on-field issues....they will continue to be losers. Get rid of Pec-Man he's a total buffoon. An idiot who does belong in the ho-ho clubs passing out dollar bills? Those women with them mile-high nap-pee bootys are like stinky-eeeee anyways and not worth a nickel. TO needs to get roughed-up by the real members of the Kowpokes.....then maybe - just maybe - he would shut his large vaselinic mouth up and just be the true talent he has - just be. Romo is just average....he's soft - he's average.....and he said so.....his head is ballooned by the no-talent dumb blonde he is with now. He has a good woman before, now just a gfroot-loop. The coach sucks...get rid of him.

Let the madness start now - every fired coach will be headed to BIg D to coach next season or beyond!

Bring back Landry.

Funny how this guy is held to a different standard than other experienced head coaches. He has ONE play of win in the last ten years ( after Elway), His personel decisions in Denver were on the whole awful. He is 24-24 in his last 48 games. He is considered a great game day coach.
Norv Turner has more play off wins in the last ten years than this guy.

You make a great observation! The only thing I can think of is that he is being given a pass because he wore "too many hats" and was not focused on "just coaching". But, shouldn't that be a negative as well? Too much ego to do what s best for the team? Sounds like a T.O wannabe with headphones.

bring him, we want him!

Jerry Jones is a failure when it comes to making decisions that let the Cowboys win. Shanahan is just more of the same old same old.

The first to occur of the day Jerry Jones dies or sells the Cowboys to someone other than his lapdog son will be the day the Cowboys have a chance at winning again.

January 4, 2009  10:50 AM ET

Doesn't matter, just as it doesn't matter who coaches the Redskins. The Cowboys could bring in the ghosts of Lombardi and Landry and they still wouldn't be the last team left standing.

The owner is the impediment that will keep the team from not falling apart.

I heard Jerry is finally getting a GM. Rumor has it Matt Millen will be the new Dallas GM.

January 4, 2009  11:20 AM ET

Shanahan is obviously a good coach. Like Reid in Philly, it may just be time for a change.

"Like Reid in Philly, it may just be time for a change."

The major difference being that Andy is coaching a playoff team today, and Jerry is sitting at home, thinking about which state jail football game he wants to go scout.

I'm really glad to see that's it going to take Jerry one more year to figure out that W. Phillips will never be successful in Dallas. I used to respect J. Jones, but now I'm starting to think he's losing his marbles, just like Davis is Oaktown. It doesn't take a genius to see that another year of TO, and that wonderful country club atomsphere that Phillips brings, will hold this team back, and out of the playoffs again. But hey, I'm not complaining.

GO EAGLES!
