Vols eyeing UGA recruiting coordinator

Tennessee has requested and received permission from Georgia to interview Bulldogs assistant football coach Rodney Garner for a position on the Vols' staff, Georgia spokesman Claude Felton said Saturday night. Garner is Georgia's assistant head coach, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. e interviewed last month for the head coaching job at Auburn, which instead hired Gene Chizik. Now, Garner is talking to Tennessee about a position on new coach Lane Kiffin's staff. It is not clear what position on the staff Tennessee is talking to Garner about. Kiffin already has hired his father, longtime NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, as the Vols' defensive coordinator and has hired Ed Orgeron, formerly defensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints, as associate head coach, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

Special Assistant to the head coach to help beat UGA in recruiting the in the SEC. If I recall Garner was at UT before he went to UGA, outside of money, I wonder what UT will offer him as a stepping stone to a HC position in the future?

Good question.

Sounds ridiculous. If Richt cannot keep this guy, you can just see the UGA ship sinking.

I love it, love it, love it. Kiffin is building a monster staff.

Enjoy this next season Bama, Georgia and Florida. Your time whipping Tennessee is coming to a close.

It'll be great to see Tennessee beat Florida again. It seems like forever ago that it happened.

Kiffen already blew it big time in recruiting and he had been there like 2 weeks. He told Tajh Boyd that he did not fit the UT system so Boyd decomitted. Anyone who watched the Army AA game knows that he is one of the best QBs in the country and would fit any system.

it has been forever, since the golden years of Ron Zook.

I was at that Zook game in Knoxville when the refs called a bogus "hit out of bounds penalty" against the Gators to allow Tennessee to kick a last second winning field goal. Zook didn't have a bad record at all against the major teams; he just lost to Mississippi schools. (beat GA, FSU)

Spurrier largely owned Tennessee, and Peyton Manning never defeated the Gators, and as long as the Gators have Meyer, I'm not worried about Kiffin. I don't think Saban will worry either.

I was in attendance at the Zook game in Knoxville where the referees made a bogus last "hit-out-of-bounds" penalty which allowed Tennessee to kick a last second game-winning field goal. Zook could beat nearly anyone, and he did defeat the Gators' greatest opponents (GA, FSU). However, he had a penchant for losing to Mississippi schools and lesser teams.

Spurrier owned Tennessee in the 1990s, and Peyton Manning never defeated the Gators. As for Tennessee's future, I am not concerned about Florida playing Tennessee as long as we have Meyer, and I doubt that Alabama is concerned about Kiffin with Saban either.

LOL, I wrote that twice. It didn't submit the first time.
