Cavs willing to trade Szczerbiak for Miller?

If it turns out that Zydrunas Ilgauskas has a serious injury, the Cavs may have to trade for a big man such as Brad Miller, who may be available. That would probably mean parting with Wally Szczerbiak, who has one year and $12 million left on his contract. Right now, the Cavs are not moving in that direction, although a few teams have called about Szczerbiak. It also may take more than Szczerbiak to get a big man such as Miller.

I have never been a big fan of Wally Szczerbiak but he has a moveable contract and if Cleveland plays it's cards right they could acquire a player that can push them over the top.

Not sure that player is Brad Miller, though.

The Cavs should jump on this opening and get the deal done.
It's not often that you can trade for a solid veteran big man, and this opportunity will help them contend in the playoffs. Even if they have to give up a draft pick or another player in addition to Szczerbiak, it's worth doing.
The Cavs' window of opportunity is coming up in the next couple years, and they should make a move. They need to be waiting, able and ready to grab a trip to the Finals as soon as the Celtics start to fade. If they don't make this kind of move in the next couple years, then other teams like the Magic and Hawks will overtake them in terms of leading the Eastern Conference.
If the Cavs are not able to make this deal happen, then I hope that Brad Miller goes to another good team that needs a big man. I would like to see him in Miami playing with Wade and Beasley, or in Golden State, or in Phoenix where he can take over the center position and allow Shaq to retire, or play fewer minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if the Hornets try to take him as well.

Another good reason to make this trade is that both Wally and Brad Miller are white guys. It's not often that you see a trade involving one white guy for another.
It would be cool to have the trade go down as one of those rare instances.

Miller is by far the better but shame to the maloofs for not being able to keep a serviceable center... maybe they need to cut back at gambling in vegas.

This trade makes more sense to me than the Miller-Marion trade

January 4, 2009  10:40 AM ET

Miller is exactly the type of player the Cavs need to compete with the Celtics and Magic. He's a good low post presence at both ends, and allows Varejao to go back to a backup role. He just put up 25-16 on Friday. He takes a lot of pressure off "Z" and with Williams and West, he completely eliminates the double team on LeBron.

no braniner for the cavs

Trade Wally for a 10 percent off coupon at Wendy's and it would still be a winner.

January 4, 2009  11:42 AM ET

The only reason i could see SAC doing this would be to save the 13mil next year. I like the idea but just think SAC will want more than just Wally.

January 4, 2009  11:46 AM ET

Wally looks like my old basketball coach, shoots like him too so for that reason I like him. LOL.

Real talk though, JL, who cares about a white for white trade? Not me cause MOST white players are scrubs.

I hope Miller doesn't go to the Cavs cause I don't want them to win a title, imagine if they do win it all, everyone will be on LeBron's nuts to the maximum, like nothing ever seen before and that will annoy me. Anyway, this Cavs team can't get past Boston.

January 4, 2009  12:16 PM ET

I have a Wally Szcerbiak McFarlane action figure (yeah, they actually made one for this scrub). Got it at a "white elephant party." What does that tell you?

January 4, 2009  01:27 PM ET

Wally for MVP. All the way.

SIKE!

Why would Sac take Wally and his another year contract?? isn't Miller's contract expiring as well?

January 4, 2009  04:33 PM ET

Cleveland's not going to win anything this year, or any year. The city has not won a title in any sport since 1964, that makes the Mistake by the Lake the losingest city in all of sports.

lol , 100 percent true , and miller would help spread the floor for lebron james and the other guards , and he can rebound too (better than ben wallace , and varejao who both dont bring any offense ) they should do it if they can

Lol, why does everyone hate on Wally? It's been like this his whole career.

maybe because he only does one thing , (shooting threes) but he dont play def. at all

January 4, 2009  06:53 PM ET

Only does 1 thing. Shoot 3s. In the NBA.
Wish I could!!!

Good for the Cavs, but why does Sacramento want Szerbiak? I don't see it happening.
