Schottenheimer passes Spagnuolo on Jets list

Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo didn't blow the Jets away during his interview Saturday at the team's Florham Park complex, and Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has emerged as the front-runner after the first week of the team's coaching search, according to two people with knowledge of the club's thinking. Spagnuolo, in his second season as the Giants' defensive boss, is the hottest assistant coach at the moment among NFL teams searching for a head coach. But even though he did a solid job during his interview with the Jets, he wasn't as prepared as one would expect, according to one person.

Jets fans were criticizing dumb offensive play calls all year. Let's promote the guy who made those calls!

Brian Schottenheimer is an idiot. I wouldn't want him coaching my fullback, let alone the whole team.

Hmmm the guy who is still busy preparing his defense for the playoffs vs the guy who has had nothing to do all week. I wonder who had more time to prepare...

I hope all these interviews and talk of other jobs don't take his focus away from the eagles this week. I hate to see him leave, if he does, but give us 3 more wins and you can go to whatever team you want!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

He's not even close to as good as his dad was.

For a brief moment before reading the whole article, I forgot who the Jets offensive coordinator was. I thought they were bringing in Marty for a look instead and thought "can he bring Bernie Kosar with him?" and "how is Marty going to react if the Jets have to play the Broncos" ... hahaha.

I need more tea. Morning everyone. Yay for Mondays.

As a Pats fan, I'm not sure who to cheer for. lol

HUH ????

My only glimmer of hope if this is true is that it was Mangini that told BS to screw up the offensive game plans....
But I can't imagine how this can be a good thing

What did they do offensively for him to get a head coaching job? Thomas was the AFC leading rusher, but offensively they were bad the last 5 games, how does that get you promoted? There are other more qualified assistants out there who won't get a "serious" interview. . . . . .

It's inevitable. He's the best defensive coordinator in the game IMO.

After what they did in Super Bowl LXll?? LOL
I'd say my choice has been made for me and if I'd had my coffee before posting that question, I wouldn't have had to ask. haha.

this makes no sense to me????? as mentioned BS has done nothing to impress that much....so what the guy knows what to say in an interview but did he get it done on the field....is what the jets ownership should be askin themselves. but who cares really.......as long as spags stays put for the another year or two

Amen. The Jets are idiots. Wait and see what Mangenius does with his new team. Woody et al. are about to look very foolish.

wasnt as prepared? maybe thats because hes preparing his defense to lead the giants back to the superbowl? regardless i would want marty schottenheimer as opposed to his son. last 3 jet coaches were 1st time nfl coaches (al groah, herm, and mangini) maybe its time for some experience.
