Sources: L.T. out for playoffs

While they're using phrases like "day to day" and "we'll see," no one in the Chargers organization truly expects LaDainian Tomlinson to play Sunday at Pittsburgh. But the Chargers will not place Tomlinson on injured reserve, in the hope that he still could play in the postseason. "He might be able to play in another week if we were able to go on," coach Norv Turner said. "Or maybe he could play in another week after that." The likelihood, according to sources, is that Tomlinson's severely strained groin will keep him out the rest of the postseason and will require surgery.

Be smart. Have the surgery now. No point in going out there like you did last year and sit on the bench with a visor on.

Duh! Lawrence Taylor has been out for a couple of decades....

I saw the title of that article and my first thought was "who cares if Lawrence Taylor is out for the playoffs, he isn't even playing" or "is he attending games and that is a big story?" ... haha

January 5, 2009  08:08 AM ET

They shoul dtrade him before next season to get the best value out of him.

wiht the injuries he has had the past couple years, he's almost done!

January 5, 2009  08:14 AM ET

he may be getting close to playing his last down as a charger. if he doesnt come back next at full strength he will be traded

January 5, 2009  08:53 AM ET

So much for that commercial with LT and Troy P. It's going to be a really cold day for the Chargers next Sunday. Really cold.

January 5, 2009  09:06 AM ET

Steelers take them out on Sunday. 24-7. Too cold for the Southern Cal bunch in the Burg!

I think we saw the passing of the torch to Sproles this weekend. LT has been great, but are we seeing another coming of Shaun Alexander?

the problem with LT and the Chargers is that they are not very good, they only beat the Colts with referee's help. 3 penalties in overtime is total B.S. I see Pittsburgh beating them 31-14. That was blatantly poor officiating in overtime. The two defensive holding penalties were absolute B.S. I wonder if Mike Pereira will apologize on the ref's behalf. It took good punting by Scifers, good running by Sproles and really bad officiating for San Diego to beat the Colts.

Steelers will more than likely beat them but the score will be more like 13-10. Steelers have a boring offense. I never thought the Titans would be more entertaining to watch but they are.

January 5, 2009  02:20 PM ET

Makes sense considering he's been out for the season too, what an awful year from LT

January 5, 2009  09:57 PM ET

I say let him rest (travel with the team, don't play) and have surgery ASAP after their season ends; whenever it occurs.

January 5, 2009  11:18 PM ET

Amazing how no one gives a chance to the Bolts when they already played in cold weather in Pittsburgh before they were playing well and only lost by a single point.
Reality, people, reality.

January 5, 2009  11:18 PM ET

LT is kind of soft. he is at the end of the road cause he has clearly lost a step. he already has a big contract. he should go full throttle and retire cause he is not going to get many more chances after this year.

January 5, 2009  11:19 PM ET

Not that I'm a big Norv Turner fan, but he is 9-1 against teams he has played previously in a season. Also the Steelers barely beat the Bolts last time in cold weather before the Bolts started playing well. Those terrible towels will be wiping tears.

Steelers D too much for Boltz.

Boltz D pretty good now too,
but think Ben and the boys will
do just enough to win ugly.

January 6, 2009  01:48 AM ET

Whats NEW he's always OUT during the PLAYOFFS

January 6, 2009  11:11 PM ET

Wow. There are a whole lot of jealous, self proclaimed, experts on here! You base your predictions and smack talking based on a team and one player in particular riddled with injuries at the end of last year and the beginning of this year. If LT had taken more time off to heal rather than try to appease all you professional analysts, he'd be a lot better off now. That's OK, The BOLTS will win in February. But I'm sure you'll all still find something to whine about so you can feel better about your team being the losers that they are. GO CHARGERS!!!!!

January 6, 2009  11:13 PM ET

Wow, there are a lot of self proclaimed losers, I mean, professional analysts on here. Wait til February and we'll see if your tongues are still wagging then!

9-8 is NOT an impressive record coming into the playoffs. Yeah..I know about the Broncos game, etc...but the other 6-7 losses weren't officiated that way. The Chargers are LUCKY to be here, but Pittsburgh takes them by 2 scores, whether by their defensive efforts or if Big Ben can motivate their offense enough and shakes off the concussion from 2 weeks ago. Go Steelers!!!
