Dolphins: Parcells not opting out

Don't worry. Bill Parcells is on the job and has promised to stay on the job to fix what is wrong. ''Bill is going to stay,'' outgoing Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga said after he walked out of a quiet, depressing Dolphins locker room. ``He told me [Friday] he was going to stay.'' Huizenga is expected to soon sell his majority interest in the Dolphins and Dolphin Stadium to billionaire real estate developer Stephen Ross. The final negotiations could be completed within days and a closing will follow. Huizenga even said he was looking to meet with Ross on Sunday evening to iron out the deal's details. He didn't have far to look. As Huizenga was speaking to a huddle of reporters, Ross, flanked by an entourage of tall Secret Service-looking men, walked briskly past on his way out to the stadium parking lot. ''My gut tells me he'll stay,'' Ross said of Parcells as he speed-walked out of the stadium. ``I certainly want him. And I understand what he wants. I think he deserves all the credit. ``Everyone is expecting him and wanting him to come back. I don't think he could find a more welcome home.''

Our local news sports segment showed a shot of Parcells during the game and he looked disgusted. He'll be back, no worries.

With "BIG TUNA" staying watch out next year AFC East!

Why would he WANT to leave? He's living in south beach, and most of the time anyone mentions the Dolphins as one of the best stories of the season, his name is mentioned as a big reason for their turnaround. If he went elsewhere and didn't have anything close to the season like he just had, he'd be second-guessed about it for a looong time. Right now he's got it made.

Because he could leave and get $12 mil guaranteed and then go work on another team? Imagine how much the Browns, Chiefs, or maybe Lions would pay for Parcells?

I have to agree with Mister K. I don't see why he would want to leave already. I don't think he has burned any bridges there yet and I know he has some clause where he can leave if the team is sold or some such. But why he would want to leave Miami after the season they have just had is beyond me.

Sorry, no fluff schedule for the fins next year and no sneaking up on anybody either. They will be hard pressed to go 8-8.

January 5, 2009  09:12 AM ET

Thank goodness. Go Tuna. Go Fins.

January 5, 2009  09:36 AM ET

the Cowboys need to bring the Tuna back to big D!!!!!

But then he finds himself working for the Browns, Chiefs or Lions (I'm not trying to kick them while they're down, but I can't picture him with any of them). Parcells loves Florida, and right now it would seem that south beach and Dolphins fans love him right back. And ownership would play a huge role in any position he would ever consider, especially after his tenure with Dallas. The Tuna has a good relationship with Wayne Huizenga who was more than happy to be hands-off and simply sign the checks. The only reason this is being talked about is because of the impending change of ownership. It will be interesting to see what develops with the new ownership, but right now Mr. Ross is saying the right things. Why would he (Stephen Ross) want to rock the boat? Maybe at this stage The Tuna is happy to enjoy what he has, with a mind geared toward his legacy and not necessarily his net worth.

D'oh!

Wonder how much they had to pay him to get him to agree not to cash in the $12 Million walkaway fee?

January 5, 2009  11:25 AM ET

Very good to hear. I detest the Dolphins and their silly wildcat plays, mainly because they made the Pats look like Keystone Cops in their first meeting. But a 10-game turnaround with a cast-away QB is a pretty impressive feat even for somebody as great as Parcells. I actually like seeing the division somewhat contested again after 7-years of domination. Glad to see Bill is loyal to the Dolphins franchise and not just their current owner.

He's got a good job, in a nice warm weather place, with an organization with owners who butt out and don't seek the limelight.

You never know. This year was suppose to be a tough schedule. Pre-season tough teams included- Broncos, Chargers, Rams, AZ and 49ers were suppose to be tough teams. Dolphins only loss to the above was AZ on the road in week 2.
