Scouts: Tebow an NFL star--or a bust

Tim Tebow has been become the subject of much debate among NFL scouts and general managers. Some think he has the durability and accuracy to make the transition if he is put in the right system. Others project him as a future fullback or linebacker at the next level, questioning whether his bruising style will play in a league where defenses are bigger, quicker and stronger and safeties see quarterbacks coming in their direction as fresh meat. Tebow has spent his entire college career in a spread option offense and has taken nearly every snap from a shotgun formation.

"Safeties see quarterback coming in their direction as fresh meat." And that's why "Others project him as a future fullback".

Do safeties see fullbacks as fresh meat as well? Who writes this inconsistent garbage?

January 6, 2009  07:10 AM ET

There is a reason they don't run the option in the NFL, and it's because the linebackers would simply ignore the running back and look at the QB as "FRESH MEAT." Tebow may play in the NFL, but he will not be a starting QB.

teabags isnt gonna be a star at the next level. if a team does take him, how long until he's "ready"? if i was a gm this guy wouldnt be someone id pick before the 4th round. im sure a team will "reach" and take a chance on him because of his name, but how many times have u seen a team "reach" on a "project" QB? projects arent taken before the 4th round most times.

What about Michael Vick & Vince Young? Those guys are projects.

He's a late second day pick. He will be a work in progress at whatever position they put him at.

January 6, 2009  07:34 AM ET

Like I said earlier, when he makes the transition to the NFL he is going to be as relevant as Matt Leinart. Might as well take that Heismann, melt it down, and make a nice shiny clipboard out of it. He is going to be the next Grossman to come out of Florida and remember how highluy touted he was coming out. He was going to be the Lions saving grace...now he is taking notes behind Kyle Orton??? Coming out of this program doesn't prepare you for the NFL and that style of play. One step above most college programs, but 2 below the pros....sorry Tebow lovers, enjoy him while you can.

All I know is I will never Doubt or Count out Tim Tebow. He is a Great Player and any team would love to have a leader like him.

Now, as a QB...........There is plenty to say why he won't succeed. He plays in the Spread, Horrible Footwork, Can't read Defenses, He can't run in the NFL..........The guy will bring it to most FS's and SS's, he throws a great deep ball, with excellent touch, he extends plays, Amazing Arm Stregnth, and no one has better leadership qualities. He only gets better as people doubt him.

They say that the Athletes around him make his throws better than they are.......I don't buy that. He has some guys that run 4.3's, well 85% of NFL WR's run 4.4 and under. If Tebow can get under Center and read the Defense, the WR's will make the play.

January 6, 2009  08:14 AM ET

I think it's hit or miss with any QB that comes into this league. It's ridiculous anyone can say this guy won't be able to play QB on a professional level.

January 6, 2009  08:25 AM ET

tebow is a great athlete, not the most talented or naturally skilled QB tho, liek someone said before he will most likely be a day 2 pick up and play some special teams until they figure out how to use him at the next level.

January 6, 2009  08:28 AM ET

**** the NFL for now Tim....just make sure you beat ****!

GO GATORS!

January 6, 2009  08:28 AM ET

Seriously? His play style is better suited for the CFL than the NFL. Unfortunately, the money isn't comparable.

If you want to see how he'd be in an NFL system, look at the SEC Championship Game against Alabama for the first three quarters. Florida tried to use him (uncharacteristically) as a pocket passer, with limited success. Once they let him loose to do his thing, they moved the ball.

Oh I am scratching my head too.....this man is freaking gorgeous and he is alot better than them boys who are already in the league. And guess what he aint no boy like Vick....who proved all sorts of stereotypes abouts QBs. This honey is the real deal. A movie star to be....

Aren't you missing your showing of Milk?

I see him being picked up by a team with a strong D that does not rely on 300+ yds of passing to win games. He would work well in a system where he doesn't need to pass a lot, has some size and speed where he can run if needed, and hand off to the backs. However, those teams (steelers, ravens, titans, ...) seem to have the QBs already.

Maybe Tenn can trade V.Y., draft Tebow, and keep Collins to QB for the next year and groom him.

Tenn is not going to trade V. Young . . ..they are not going to get a 1st and 2nd for him which is what they woudl probably be asking.

January 6, 2009  08:50 AM ET

He's worth a 6-7th round pick on to play the 'wildcat' or some of these other trick formations that are en-vogue now.
He's played in a SOLID conference, threw against NFL Cb's and should absolutely be a servicable abck-up in the NFL.

Not sure what they could get... But if he is not the QB they want, the picks don't much matter.

January 6, 2009  09:02 AM ET

He won't play ANY meaningful football in the NFL.

January 6, 2009  09:02 AM ET

BUST as a QB. Maybe he'll do ok at another position but I don't think he'll be a great QB in the NFL.

January 6, 2009  09:05 AM ET

and what Heisman trophy winner is doing anything great in the NFL????
