Did Jets reject Cowher's money grab?

As the Jets' coaching search begins its second week, details are beginning to emerge of the team's brief flirtation with Bill Cowher and why there were never substantive talks. According to a league source, Cowher's representatives spoke with the team last Tuesday about the opening. They told Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum that the former Steelers coach was 95 percent sure he was not going to return to coaching. Cowher's reps then told Tannenbaum that Jets owner Woody Johnson should call him, insinuating if Johnson offered an exorbitant amount of money, Cowher might change his mind. Johnson, who was out of the country, felt a phone conversation with Cowher would just be a money grab by the coach. Instead, Cowher's people were informed that he would be happy to meet with Cowher when he returned to the country this week. It was then that Cowher withdrew his name from consideration, something that indicated to the Jets he never had serious interest, anyway.

they jets have serious questions marks at the QB position and depending on what Bret does its going to be an uphill battle. if bret stays they have a little stability for a yr and if he retires you have no one behind him that makes you say "i can win with this guy". the jets is one of the least attractive jobs available this year

I'd say sex change but I assumed FN would block it.

You want The Chin to coach for you...better open up the wallet and open it wide. Good things don't come cheap....he could turn the Lions into a playoff team in 2 years.

And how exactly does that insinuate anything? The Jets beat writer is in up to his elbows reaching for a story. Whatever pays the bills, I guess...

Funny, I meant to type "Goodbye Eagles". Maybe I was being prophetic? Maybe I better rethink my prediction.

The Eagles defense is looking wicked good.
