Tebow scrambles to explain OU comment

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow tried to set the record straight Monday at the BCS national championship media day at Dolphin Stadium. No, he didn't mean any disrespect to Oklahoma when he said on television after the SEC title game he was looking forward to playing against a Big 12 defense. "I didn't say it like that," Tebow said. "I dream of playing teams like Texas (and) Oklahoma, but also the Penn States, USC. So when I was talking about it, I was talking about it in a way like that, not like we're superior to them. That wasn't what I meant." The Sooner players have since fired back, with cornerback Dominique Franks suggesting Tebow would only be the fourth-best quarterback in the Big 12, behind their own Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy of Texas and Graham Harrell of Texas Tech. "Who knows?" Tebow said with a chuckle. "That might have been a compliment. We'll see. You can say whatever you want. That's fine. We still get to go play."

Tebow provided the bulletin board material long before franks did. But it seems the SEC folks never heard him. nor did they hear the D coach say OU couldnt score 60 points in the SEC cause they play defense. Nor did they hear spikes say all the good Big 12 players are on offense and if they were in the SEC, they would for sure be on Defense. Selective Hearing. It happens sometimes.

yet the media tries to skewer franks for stating facts? saying he took a shot at teabags? puhlease! the media really needs to get off this guys sack

Some advice Timmy? I would investigate missionary work a little more in-depth as I don't see that career as a pro flinger looking too bright.

There's something to be said about shifting talents and their balance on offense and defense. The SEC proves to keep talent on their defensive side high and it becomes most useful in the bowls where the season has culminated for all eligible teams. It throws a jolt in what most teams are used to in other conferences. Ole Miss/Texas Tech was a good example. The SEC has been onto this for some years now, and it works to the SEC's advantage especially for Big 12 hurry up teams that ultimately keep their offense on the field at a ratio of 1:3 meaning while the SEC's defense is holding your offense to half it's normal points per game because it is effective, the Big 12 defense starts growing tired quickly. There's alot to be said for Big 12's shift in offense as well, it's good for numbers, it's good for polls, it's good for confusion. Ultimately it's all strategy and in the end it comes down to not just the top talent but the depth. We'll see one more time how deep each team goes.

And any other Big 12 team does have defense, huh. No judgement on that. It's just how the Big 12 rolls, at least this year maybe recent years.

The by that account, none of the high octane offenses that hung 50 on Tech are not so great?

Please explain - Chicken or egg?

Texas wasn't so horrible on defense last night in the Fiesta Bowl. They need to establish a running game though. It appears the days of Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson are over.

Some of Big 12 Teams most have a Def. or the 4 teams(Neb,UT,KU,MU) that have won there Bowl games would have lost right.

OMG... Just play the game already.

*Some of the BIG 12

January 6, 2009  12:42 PM ET

It's just by comparison, Big 12 doesn't have a defense ranked above 49. I'm not saying their defense is nonexistent. But most of your teams in the Big 12 rank below half the country while the offense ranks in the top 25. It's reverse situation in the SEC for the most part. But Florida's got high ranks in both departments, so they've really got everything on paper to win.

Oklahoma better be the ones to bring their game. This win means everything for the Big 12 conference in tipping of the scale. Otherwise, the SEC is going to prove things aren't so cyclical yet.

This year the SEC got lucky in there draws for bowl games. All the teams did! The Pac-10 surely did. The WAC got hoses down and the Big 10 should suspend playing USC for about three years. Just play the SEC, that is if a team will play them. The lower tier teams will play them but not the top 5.
