I hear the Cowboys are not sweating the notion of losing Jason Garrett to another team as a head coach. They are actually hoping this might happen.

i love unsubstantiated rumors that appear out of thin air...

I think this would be mistake unless the Cowboys organization is looking to pursue another coach after 2009. Shananhan? Wasn't this guy the one who would eventually take over head coaching duties in the coming years of the Cowboys. How fortunes fall...

January 6, 2009  08:35 AM ET

Why don't they just spell it out for us all.... Shanahan is coming....

January 6, 2009  08:39 AM ET

I don't think he'll get hired as a head coach, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Cowboys secretly wanted him out. He was fantastic last year, but didn't live up to raised expectations this year.

I mean more so than usual.

January 6, 2009  08:47 AM ET

Wait a minute .....last year he was a offensive coordinating genius, now you want to get rid of him? Jerry is an idiot. Why would you be okay with losing Garrett and keeping Wade Phillips. Wade is a proven loser and you want to keep him? I'm sure they are just waiting to get Cowher or Shannahan.

January 6, 2009  08:48 AM ET

It's amazing how a guy goes from coaching genius to pushed out of the door. (Assuming this is true). Only in Dallas. Cowboys fans near and far tried to convince us all that the mighty Garrett was the next big thing. Funny how times change. Jason Garrett didn't forget how to coach offense, that team is filled with a bunch of underachievers.

Parcells leaves: Cowboys have no heart.
Parcells arrives: Dolphins go from 1 win to division title with far less talent than the Cowboys.

Coincidence? I think not.

January 6, 2009  08:48 AM ET

I also don't think Shanahan would be wise to go to Dallas. Think about it this way, for all of you who can relate to the situation: Remember when you were in college and after your first semester you come home for winter break? Remember how much it sucked, going from making all of your own decisions to the nagging control of your parents, who treat you as though you aren't qualified or smart enough or youre simply making the wrong choices? Remember that?

That's what I would see Shanahan going through, and it'd be daily conflict. He's gotten used to autonomous control of personnel, and Jones wouldn't allow that. It's the reason the Raiders organization is in the toilet, and just because Jones is better at it doesn't mean the 'Boys won't someday reach that point too.

This is a GOOD idea Jerry!

(rolls eyes)

the Head coaching job for dallas has already been promised to Garrett, if he isn't there to take it when Wade Phillips is done screwing up the team, then it opens the door for BIG MIKE to come in...

"It's amazing how a guy goes from coaching genius to pushed out of the door. (Assuming this is true). Only in Dallas." Don't you mean "only in pro sports"?

The 2007 Cowboys scored 455 points. The 2008 Cowboys scored 362 points. That just may be a boy wonder who wasn't such a genius the 2nd time around.

Beat writers need to pay the bills too. Getting away from Jerry Jones could be the best thing that happens to this guy, regardless of where he goes.

January 6, 2009  09:17 AM ET

What time do the Cowboys play this weekend?

January 6, 2009  09:19 AM ET

What is so special about Jason Garrett? The Cowboys finished middle of the pack with 22.6 ppg scoring offense despite having 'all that talent'. Behind the Bears (23.4 ppg!!). And if the Cowboys want Garrett hired away, man up and fire him. Don't wait for somebody to hire him away - that's pathetic!

first...the new name coach cupcake is quite appropriate i would say. does he toughen up? that remains to be seen. hard to overhaul demeanor that you have had your whole life...meanwhile we sit in wait for our next victim of jerrys idiocracy

second...garrett? so he calls a play and its lame. seems as though they still couldnt execute whether it was a lame play or a great play.

third...please, someone call roy williams and invite him to your team, dont **** about getting the ball and then it comes your way and you effin drop it, geesh.

fourth, tom cruise with your witchcraft, please take the spell off romo and let him learn to pass...to someone with a matching jersey.

we cant blame all of our issues on king jer or JG or even cupcake...

someone has to throw, someone has to block, and someone darn sure has to catch a ball...if its in the general 15 yard vicinity.

and finally, thank you big D D...what a fantastic year, you tried to keep us in the game every week but im sure with your butts dragging with no rest or help from the offense it became hard to be sharp...or really to even care any more.

D WARE...youre my hero!

~still love my cowboys... :(
