McDaniels favorite for Broncos job?

I hear the Broncos were not enamored or impressed with Steve Spagnuolo and he does not seem to be the frontrunner. However, they were very impressed with Josh McDaniels of the Patriots, and he might be the favorite now. The Broncos might be on a fast track to hire a coach this week. Moving up the Raheem Morris interview means they might want to move quickly.

This job should go to Spagnuolo.

We don't want either of them as HC. But if it's going to be one of them it should be the defensive guy. The OC we have is good enough and has a good relationship with Cutler!

January 6, 2009  10:28 AM ET

Dont' see why it wouldn't work. The Pats run a lot of spread formations & Cutler has proven he can make all the plays from those formations this year. Cutler is a far more superior athlete than Brady, now he just needs the coaching to put it all together.

McDaniels would be nuts to take that job. Follow Mike Shanahan? At his tender age of what, 14? The pressure would drive him to Krispy Kremes like it did Mangini. Oh wait, Mangini's been tagging the Kremers for a while...Besides, rumor has it Brady and him have a pact. McDaniels can't leave until Brady retires or leaves the Patriots. For whatever that's worth.

The Broncos offense was great. Even with them having to go and get running backs off the street, they were still great. One while I thought T.D. was gonna suit up again. They need a defensive coach to get that defense into shape. And they need some better talent on defense. Outside of DJ Williams, Dumervill, Bly and Champ Bailey, they suck. But I've seen great coaches do more with less. How about Rex Ryan or Steve Spagnuolo?

The League dont learn!!!!
Of ALL former Patriots coaching staff members who have left to become Head Coaches tell me of one who has been successful? .........................................................................N ONE!
Catrell, Mangina, the big gut guy in Notre Dame, so why this guy? Stop it!

January 6, 2009  12:34 PM ET

The Broncos offense is fine, they need the defensive help. Rex Ryan would be the perfect fit.

then maybe this is an indication brady;s gone and its time for cassel in NEw England haha jk. in all seriousness though McDaniels is most likely going to be coaching somewhere, and there must be something wronge with spagnuolo, because the jets weren't impressed by him, and now the broncos aren't. This guys is going to end up coaching the lions.

January 6, 2009  01:12 PM ET

Bowlen, why the hell would you even interview an offensive guy? The offense is fine. We need a defensive minded coach. Raheem Morris, Frazier, Spagnoulo, or Rex Ryan. I favor Ryan, especially since Ray Lewis is going to be a FA this year. He would bring just the kind of leadership and heart to the LB corp as well as the entire defense. They have lacked any kind of heart since Al Wilson left.

January 6, 2009  01:20 PM ET

Yeah. That's what Denver needs...an offensive guy who loves to pass and doesn't care that much about running the ball. Sounds oddly familiar. Meanwhile, their defense is beyond horrible.

January 6, 2009  03:21 PM ET

I don't see Josh McDaniels getting this job maybe Steve Spagnuolo cause Denver need a strong defensive mind to run the team. There offense is good for now so if it ain't broke don't fix it. Josh will have other offers for HC, I hope he come back to the Pats if not I wish nothig but good luck what ever he gose.

'Dre Bly? Please. He's terrible. Rex Ryan wouldn't work in Denver. Bowlen wants a guy that will represent his organization well, and Ryan isn't exactly that guy. After reading everything in the Denver papers, in sounds like it'll either be McDaniels (which I wouldn't be opposed to) or Bucs D Coordinator Raheem Morris.

Good QB. Best corner in the league. Supportive fan base. Denver could very well be a nice situation for the next coach.

January 6, 2009  09:11 PM ET

On the JOB TRAINING Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!There were some success this year with ne Head Coaches with NO EXPERIENCE .

That one is a good offensive or defensive coach isn't what's important, it's how well one manages the head coaching position. Being a good assistant coach is a prerequisite, and that can be on either side of the ball. Also important is how the coach fits with the owner and others in the organization. If the Broncos think McDaniels fits, then hire him.
