Capitals-Flyers feud brewing

Still stung by his team's 7-1 defeat at the Wachovia Center last month, Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau recently took some shots at the Flyers for what he perceived as running up the score. It was the Caps' worst loss since 2006, and Boudreau thought the Flyers rubbed it in by playing some of their top forwards in the closing minutes. "What goes around comes around eventually," he told NHL.com. "And it will." Boudreau's surging Caps played host to the Flyers last night. When he learned of Boudreau's comments, Flyers coach John Stevens bristled after yesterday's morning skate. "You guys can take this Boudreau stuff and you can take it somewhere else," Stevens told reporters. "I'm not getting drawn into ****-for-tat stuff. I don't know where this is going. Bruce coaches the Washington Capitals. I don't care what he says. I've got my team to get ready here. This is obviously an important game, a hard game, and I don't care what he said, to be honest with you."

Don't sweat it, Hf4life - it's worth being said twice.

Well if Boudreau and the Caps didnt like getting 7 goals scored on them, then maybe they should have done something about it. Maybe play some D? This isnt pee-wee hockey, bunch of crybabies.

funny, boudreau plays ovechkin up to the last second, no matter how many goals he scores.

i'm willing to wager that if ovechkin had a hat trick and the caps were up 6-0 AO would still be playing in the 3rd.

crap. double post. my bad.

January 7, 2009  09:55 AM ET

Isn't that what you are supposed to do in hockey, score as many goals as possible? I mean when do you let up? At 3 goals? How many come from behind wins has the league seen this year already?

January 7, 2009  10:06 AM ET

macdaddy.....don't sweat it, buddy. There is another hiccup in the system today. It hit me yesterday and again today when I was correcting the spelling in a post and the corrections didn't show.

The hiccup was obviously someone choking on yet another Sundin article.......WHO GIVES A RAT'S BUTT!

January 7, 2009  10:07 AM ET

Let's be honest....which team hasn't "run up" the score at one time or another against a team they don't like.

Go to the corner. Feel shame........

January 7, 2009  10:08 AM ET

It's ok. We still beat them last night.

Yeah, you would think the Flyers were the Champs that every team was trying to knock off.

Good job, you should be very proud. Not an easy task.

This is a silly story though and cudos to coach Stevens for not being drawn in. Usual Philly class at work.

January 7, 2009  10:17 AM ET

As I recall, the caps were taking runs at the Flyers as soon as the game was out of reach. The Flyers made them pay on the PP. I would rather they take runs at some of the caps players but they would just get a 20 game suspension to go along with all the injuries they already have from other teams who took runs at the Flyers players... and got only 4 games at worst, most not even a penalty call.

January 7, 2009  10:22 AM ET

I see some dupes and my comment didn't post so I will try again...

If the Caps themselves really think the score really had nothing to do with them taking runs at the Flyers players after the game was out of reach and getting called for it then they should wear helmets outside of work also.

The Flyers made them pay on the PP instead of taking runs at them. I would rather some of their stars get boarded or elbowed like the Flyers get but instead of a 4 game suspention at best (most of the B.S. doesn't even get a penalty at all called) the Flyers would get 20-25 with an already injury depleted team.
