The Toronto Raptors have been looking for a small forward, and HOOPSWORLD has learned that they may have finally found their man. A deal being discussed would send troubled forward Josh Howard to the Raptors in a deal that would land Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker in Dallas, with a combination that could involve DeSagana Diop and Antoine Wright headed back to Toronto.

Without Bosh or Kidd/Dirk its not a blockbuster.

I don't see how this works for Toronto... they will be taking on too much salary plus Josh will not get them over the hump anyways... they need a big man - not a shot-first small forward...

This trade would be good for the raptors, knowing O'neal would stay healthy in the future.

This trade would be good for the raptors, knowing that O'neal would remain healthy for the remainder of the season(not counting on it)...i really wish this trade goes down because i can't stand Parker's fade away shots behind the net anymore.

I can't see Brian Colengelo parting with Bargnani. Even though I am liking this trade a lot and I think it will work for the Raptors, I am not getting my hope up.

This will be a very good deal for the Raptors but the Mavs will have the raw end of the deal. Toronto will add another scorer that's lacking in their lineup but the Mavs don't get what they need which is a low post player. It won't make sense for the Mavs at all unless they really want to get rid of JHo.

This trade is good for the Raptors but not for the Mavs. Toronto gets another scorer in their lineup that's lacking scoring. Mavs don't get the player that they need which is a low post scorer. This won't make sense for the Mavs unless they are only trying to get rid of Jho.

This is weird. I have to double post.

Well put...Bargnani (sp) showed promise as a rookie, but regressed..If Im the raptors this is a steal for well rounded 3

Yeah, but that's cool since the Mav's aren't going anywhere anyway. Why not try something different ya know? A first round exit is a first round exit right? At least in this scenario Toronto will do better, and the Mavs won't end up any less suckier than they already are.

agree-
I like bargnani- but he's the SAME type of player (not on the same level obviously) as Dirk is... so he'd be going into the SAME situation as he is in, in Toronto- which limits his growth,
As far as Toronto- it would be an EXCELLENT pick up
they desperately need SF.2 guard scoring & athleticism

January 7, 2009  08:55 AM ET

I quite like this trade. Toronto desperately needs a better small forward, which would also help take some pressure off of Bosh. Parker has been a solid player for the Raptors over the years, but he should never really have been a starter. Bargnani has been awfully inconsistent. Now all of a sudden his name is being mentioned in trade rumours, and over the last four games he's suddenly been averaging 20 ppg. I hope Colangelo doesn't think this is a turning point in Bargnani's career, and ships him out for someone better.

January 7, 2009  08:59 AM ET

hmmm... Bargnani... maybe they want another Dirk to replace Dirk when Dirk is on the bench. Soft meets softer.

January 7, 2009  09:06 AM ET

This isn't a blockbuster, and I really cannot imagine Colangelo admitting he was wrong about Bargnani by including him in this deal.

Also, why would Dallas want a poor man's Dirk Nowitzki? They already have Dirk to begin with. No, I dismiss this. Even if it does go down neither team gets better.

January 7, 2009  09:11 AM ET

Bargnani is a stiff who either doesn't understand the playbook or has a perpetual "duh" look on his face. This guy will never excel in this league. Like any dog stock, cut your losses while you can and move on. Don't hold on until it is too late....I would make this move without hesitation.

January 7, 2009  09:14 AM ET

This is a pipedream. Read the post - Howard for Bargnani and Parker is a loss for Dallas already, and then it says a couple more players to Toronto... doesn't make sense - first, why would Dallas add more players when they are already giving up more; and second, the deal would work financially with just the three players - adding the extra players would render the deal impossible based on salaries. Wherever this is coming from, they don't know what they are talking about.

January 7, 2009  09:14 AM ET

Sounds like a good ole fashion heist to me. Josh Howard is an all-star, Diop has always been a solid contributor, and Toronto doesnt give up much.

come on- lets be fair
he's a 23 year old KID, coming from the internat game.
He is DEVELOPING> he is not a 'stiff'.....
Just because they were dumb enough to draft him #1-
don't hold that against him

I'm not saying he'll be a 20-10 guy....
but he is capable of 15 & 8.....as he MATURES.....that's not to bad

The only take-away for me is that dallas most likely wants to clean house. jHo is under a big contract, get rid of it. parker and Barg will not be given extensions. I think Diop also has like a 3-4 year deal, get rid of that too. Now why include Wright, I can't think of.
In terms of talent, clearly Toronto wins. But dallas MAY be the ultimate winner if their goal with this deal isn't looking for immediate talent, but general cleaning house and looking ahead for future cap space.
