Rick Pitino would love to see his University of Louisville basketball players kick all their Sidekicks to the curb. Not their friends, mind you. Well, all right, maybe some of their friends. But I'm talking about the phones. I'm talking about burning the Blackberrys, throwing out the Treos, adding a self-destruct app to their iPhones. Heading into their Big East opener tonight at South Florida, Pitino says his players have too many voices in their ears, too many friends and family. After Sunday's win over the University of Kentucky, Edgar Sosa said he had 42 text messages and more than 20 voice mails. Pitino said he'd like them to begin focusing on a network of one. "There's too many people in their lives," Pitino said yesterday. "If they were just consumed with Father Rick or Uncle Rick, and not with all these idiots on the streets who know nothing about the game, it would be much easier on them."

Finally somebody has said what needed to be said. Thanks Rick. This is exactly the kind of thing that distracts players. Other people, experts, guru's, agents, all telling the players how they should start shooting more, dribble drive and shoot.

These players need to have their basketball guidance coming from one source... thats right.. uncle rick.
