Ruutu offers no apology for bite

08:37 AM ET 01.08 | The National Hockey League took a bite out of Jarkko Ruutu's season and salary yesterday. Ruutu was suspended two games and lost $31,707 U.S. in salary following his scuffle with Sabres heavyweight Andrew Peters during Buffalo's 4-2 win at home on Tuesday night. Peters stuck his glove in Ruutu's face and Ruutu appeared to bite Peters' right thumb. Peters ripped off his glove in apparent agony following the incident and showed his thumb to the referees. The only penalty called on the play was an unsportsmanlike conduct minor to Peters, who muttered plenty of choice words to officials, as well as Ruutu. Following the game, Ruutu said he didn't bite Peters, but yesterday he grudgingly accepted the league's decision. "I accept the ruling from the league," he said. "I feel that he (Peters) put his glove in my mouth with intentions to injure me. There was no intent to hurt him, just to get his thumb out of my mouth." Senators coach Craig Hartsburg, speaking before the league made its ruling, supported Ruutu, wondered whether Peters overreacted to the situation.
