Bulls likely to trade Hughes

07:41 AM ET 01.09 | Larry Hughes has been traded twice during his 11-year career, and that number will grow this season if the Bulls and Hughes get their way. "If you get traded, obviously another team wants you, so it's always a positive in that way," Hughes said. "I definitely want to play minutes and contribute. That's a focus of mine. Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to do that in the near future." Hughes has made it abundantly clear he would like to play more, venting frustration over his non-starting and limited role twice. And the Bulls absolutely are willing to accommodate him by the Feb. 19 trade deadline to alleviate their crowded backcourt situation. But the Bulls are equally as clear they won't take extra years or salary to do so, and they conveyed that to Jeff Wechsler, Hughes' longtime representative, in a cordial face-to-face meeting this week.

"If you get traded, obviously another team wants you, so it's always a positive in that way" - Or they want to get rid of someone else badly so are willing to trade for a scrub who had a few good seasons.

Trade him for Jerry Stackhouse. They are always both injured but hopefully Stack will give them some leadership.

Never pay too much attention to players whining about playing time. Hughes wants a starting role, and more playing time. Shouldn't be a problem in Sacramento. This is his 11th year in the league, and he's never played a full season. Maybe the Bulls can sucker the Kings into giving them Brad Miller.

Good, trade him... He's a bum...

Paxon might just be the most inept GM in the league-
who is going to take on his LARGE contract without
giving you back an equally LARGE piece of garbage?
- Isiah isn't around anymore to fleece.

And Larry- seriously- if you were AT ALL a quality player
and had anything left....don't you think you WOULD BE playing?

Again, who would want his bad attitude and his price tag.

The league office is hurting the Knicks. They need to get Mobley off our roster ASAP so we can make a 2 for 1 trade like Hughes and Nocioni for Marbury's contract. They are quick to fine and suspend players and officials but slow on something so vital to the success of the premier franchise... How long do they need to investigate? This is not a murder trial! C'mon guys...

You make me wish Cuban was running the league.

He is gonna end up with the Knicks lol him and Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd will get to deal with a sorry player that thinks he is way better than he is. Larry Hughes can't hit an open shot to save his life. I am glad We got rid of him and made him Chicago's headache now other teams out there can see what we had to deal with.

January 9, 2009  10:43 AM ET

Why would a team trade for Larry? What has he done? No other team is going to correct your mistakes, Bulls. What are you going to with Joke him No way?

Isn't Mobley automatically out of the roster because he retired? Isn't retirement different from being waived? When a player retires, the team has better options of signing other players. The retired players salary won't count against the team's salary cap and team roster. And if Mark Cuban was running the league then this league would be a lot better. If Cuban was running the league he would do his best to make sure that everything would be running smoothly and that the league would continue to grow and get better.

I cant think of one team that would want to take him. Maybe the Wizards would want him back.

January 9, 2009  11:44 AM ET

I can't think of any team that would give Larry his desired minutes and/or a starting role. I don't think he'll be happy anywhere he goes.

I don't know who told him he was a superstar player. His game is suspect and he's consistently injured. He's a very selfish player that has survived in the NBA because of the superstar players he has played alongside of (Arenas, James, and Iverson). He should be a leader amoung these young players, instead, he's a pain and embarrassment. Trading him will not help the team he will be traded to because he's a prima dona. Instead of trying to fit in with this young Chicago team, he's rocking the boat and complaining about minutes. If he's traded, what team would give him the minutes he's expecting to receive, the Seattle Supersonics, oh, that team is now in Oklahoma.
