Kaberle hints at waiving no-trade

Tomas Kaberle has no desire to leave Toronto, but the Maple Leafs defensemen said today he wouldn't stand in the way of a trade if management was forceful in its request. Asked if he would waive his no-trade contract should Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke tell him he is no longer part of the team's future, Kaberle for the first time opened the door for a potential trade. aberle is widely considered to be one of Burke's best assets as he goes about rebuilding the team. Though he has had some defensive lapses, Kaberle has scored two goals and 23 assists in 40 games. Also attractive in terms of his trade value is that he has two more years remaining on a contract that will pay him $4.25 million per. And though he is nowhere near asking for a trade or declaring that he would waive his no-trade contract, this is the 30-year-old Czech's strongest suggestion that he wouldn't stand in the way of a trade should he be asked.

If he's smart, he would waive the no-trade and go to a contender. Toronto is taking steps in the right direction, but is no where close to being a contender now. At 30 years old, Kaberle has a chance to have some very good years on a good team.

Good, Toronto should get some assets for Karberle.

If Sather had any sense, (a moot point, I guess) he would try get him for Redden

For this to happen, you'd have to assume Brian Burke fell down a flight of stairs at the Air Canada Centre and has severe amnesia...completely forgetting the Wade Redden that absolutely sucks the last two years and only remembering the skilled (but still overrated) younger Redden in his Ottawa prime!

and you think this is not possible?

If Kaberle were to go, then the Leafs need to keep Kubina. They really shouldn't dump both of them at the same time.
I like Kaberle, and he clearly isn't pulling a Sundin although, he has the right to.

Wishful thinking.

Kaberle to Philly for Upshall and a 2nd rounder. Fitting him under the cap is another story but I'd love to see him here.

Kaberle is worth at least a first round pick and a prospect. Last year they had a deal for Carter and a First Rounder and I can't believe that his stock has dropped that much. Yes he's not having his greatest year, and when you look around and see who he is playin with it's not hard to imagine why, but his numbers are still solid. I really like Kaberle, and I will miss him, but it's time for him to move on to a contender...along with Kubina, Stajan, Toskala, and pretty much the rest of this team with the exceptions of Schenn and Pogge.

Kaberle is worth at least a first round pick, and probably a prospect as well. Last year they had a deal in place with Philadelphia for a first round pick and Jeff Carter. I realize his stock has probably dropped since then, but it can't have dropped enough for the people on here to be saying "Lashoff and a 3rd round pick" or "Upshall and a 2nd rounder". He is a very gifted puck moving defensemen, and still has 5-6 years of really great hockey left in him if he was surrounded by some quality players again. Also if they get rid of Kaberle they don't need to keep Kubina at all, Kubina should be the next to go, as you could possibly get a 1st round pick for him, or at least a 2nd round pick. Right now for the Leafs, the worse they do the quicker they'll be back as a solid playoff contender. So expect Kubina, Antropov, Kaberle, Poni, Stajan, Toskala and any other Leaf not named Pogge or Schenn to all be on T&R at least once or twice until the trade deadline.

Holmgren shot that deal down as soon as Carter's name was mentioned.

No he didn't, the deal was agreed to but Kaberle refused to waive his no trade. Had he done that the trade would have gone through and the leafs would have been laughing.
