Jagr open to Penguins return

06:37 AM ET 01.10 | If the Penguins are still looking for a scoring winger to play alongside captain Sidney Crosby in 2010, a guy who tallied a few times while wearing the skating penguins crest wouldn't mind giving Consol Energy Center a grand, if not improbable, opening. Right wing Jaromir Jagr, the second-leading scorer in franchise history, said any return to the NHL would come with either the New York Rangers or the Penguins, who drafted him fifth overall in 1990. "I would just go there and play for them for the minimum salary," Jagr said of playing again for the Penguins, with whom he became an international hockey icon alongside current majority co-owner Mario Lemieux in the 1990s. "I owe Mario so much because he taught me how to play hockey. If he would want me to, I would come back for the minimum and try to help him. But he doesn't need me. He has good players there." Jagr, who signed a two-year contract in the summer to play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, would be 38 when his overseas deal expires.

I bet Jagr could teach the kids a trick or two.

As a Pens fan I was pissed at the way Jagr left, but would welcome him back. It's not everyday a guy with his God given talent comes to your team. He had an amazing career in Pittsburgh. Even when he wasn't happy he still played at an amazing level. I'm one of the peopl who say screw him when he comes to town, but thats just because he's in another sweater. He is a future Hall of Famer and I would love nothing more than to see him come back for at least one more year and retire a Penguin. Then have his sweater lifted to the rafters. I wish him luck whatever he does.

Jagr is and always has been an incredible player. To people saying that he just follows the money... well, what would you do if people threw that kind of money at you? Problem with him is he needs to fit into a certain style of play, and not be hold on such a tight leash, and at times he looks incredibly unmotivated. But yeah, he should definetely go back to the Pens to finish his career there. As Domi28 said.. he sure could teach them youngsters a trick or two.

Of course! Jagr loves mentoring younger players.
If he does come back and plays for the Penguins Crosby better rip that C off his chest if he knows what's good for him. It would be waiting for him when Jagr retires for good.
And not only does he make the other players on the ice (Dubinsky, Prucha) that much better, he could definitely teach the kid to respect the game more than he does (i.e., the diving, the crying, fighting like a girl).

Funny Jagr didn't do that when Lemieux came back.

KHL must not be working out for him. Pens need something, almost anything right now for a boost.

Please don't compare Jagr to Sidney Crosby.

I'm surprised. Jagr has certainly matured if this article is true.
He was/is an amazing player. He used to play for the money but, he most certainly has enough of that now. This could be an excellent move on the Penguin's part (along with getting Quinn in as coach).
I also agree that if Jagr does return, Crosby should give up the 'C' to him. That would once again show Crosby's incredible maturity.

heck lemieux should pay for a flight to sneak jagr out of russia. he could help the center-loaded team a lot. The benefit would also be that you don't need to depend on him when he is feeling lazy, you have malkin, crosby and staal.
i would even prefer him coming back to the rangers right now. They need someone with offensive talent. Sather has put together a team "stars" who are actually nothing more than 2nd line players at best. you don't build a team around gomez and drury, sather you silly goose.

If Jags returns to the Pens, and that's a BIG IF, the "C" issue could be determined then. Like Dirk said, Jags didn't give it up when Mario returned. Frankly, the "C" right now is a non issue.

jagr could help the penguins or rangers tremendously. The penguins need to balance their center-loaded team and the rangers just need someone who can actually score. the rangers highest scorer is tied for 34th in the league. the rangers also have a tremendously bad power-play.
the rangers are a team with no true first-line players. Sather, the silly goose, thought he could build a team around gomez and drury. Any hockey fan could have told you they are ancially pieces.
if i were lemieux, i would send a plane to sneak jagr out of russia. the penguins are in a free fall and they need some help.
