I hear the 'Skins might open the big wallets to try and acquire Carolina offensive tackle Jordan Gross when he becomes a free agent in March. They will have a ton of competition.

with a few exceptions, the deadskins should be eyeing a total revamp of the team

They will have no choice but to do that if they choose to enter the FA seriously. As of now they have $116 million in salaries next year with an expected $123 million cap. $8 mil. is listed for Jason Taylor, think he will go, but they have some serious money in some players. Of course the next year , 2010, is uncapped right now, so who knows.

tossing money at every swinging **** with a pulse is what plagues this team. Try something new like ........building a team for the long haul!

January 10, 2009  11:08 AM ET

Dear Redskins watch out for the inevitable "franchise tag" that Carolina will slap on Gross.

January 10, 2009  11:48 AM ET

Don't do it Gross. As soon as you sign a contract with Dan Snyder, you'll break your leg in 53 places or your skill set will totally disappear. I've been a 'skins fan since 1972 but I think Dan Snyder brought a curse with him when he bought the 'skins.

Washington won't be the only team in that market. Big name offensive tackles don't hit the market very often.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Andy Reid and the Eagles make a push for him either. Reid puts a premium on linemen and our OT contracts are up.

January 10, 2009  12:25 PM ET

Why not eye Panther's John Fox? If Schneider had only kept Marty we would be a legitimate contender right now!

January 10, 2009  12:29 PM ET

The Panthers will have a very tough decision to make. Both Jordan Gross and Julius Peppers are going to be free agents at the end of this season. The Panthers can put the franchise tag on only one of them. This is going to be a tough call for the Panthers. Offensive tackles and Pass rushing Defensive Lineman are very important positions in the NFL.

January 10, 2009  01:06 PM ET

This article should just read, "Many NFL teams will be eyeing Gross"

Why single out the Redskins?

January 10, 2009  01:11 PM ET

The 'skins need to fire the worst QB of all time, Jason Campbell and promote the best passing QB in college history, Colt Brennan. They also need to build their lines so Gross would be worth every penny!

January 10, 2009  01:15 PM ET

Redskins need to revamp the lines and get rid of Jason Campbell and then they will be golden. JC sucks!!!

January 10, 2009  01:26 PM ET

He could very well be franchised

January 10, 2009  01:43 PM ET

You cannot have a good football team without being strong on both sides of the line.

January 10, 2009  04:10 PM ET

Where we going?

January 10, 2009  05:36 PM ET

You mean Danny Boy is gonna throw money at someone? Wow, that is SO unlike him ...

January 10, 2009  05:38 PM ET

Will Portis whine about this too?

I think you have to franchise Peppers. Teams have to spend many hours game planning to slow down Peppers but you don't have to for Gross. i don't know what Panthers cap situation is be I'm suprised they didn't sign one this off season so worst case they could franchise the one that's not signed

I want to know who did the author hear it from, his homeboy Pookie's sisters, cousins , neices, aunt, brother?

Why single out the Redskins? Because people love piling on to the Redskins for what they did 2000. Any idiot writer will say "The Redskins are looking at so and so blah blah blah"

This would be a great signing. A 28 year old cornerstone tackle in his prime. Exactly what we would need.
