Quinn in Penguins' future?

Coach Pat Quinn has become a favourite topic in various discussions since leading Canada to a World Junior title, with speculation linking him to places like Ottawa and Pittsburgh. It says here Ottawa would not be a good fit. Quinn, if nothing else, is fiercely loyal to his core players. That does not appear to be a recipe for success with the Sens, where the likes of Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson have been coddled for too long. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is intriguing, especially since the one unifying thread among the players is their dislike for coach Michel Therrien.

As a diehard Pens fan, I don't know if Quinn is the answer, but Therrien has clearly lost this team. Malkin and Crosby have no business playing together and he changes lines more frequently then Bettman makes a dumb move. I say it's time for Michel to go.

I thought Sidney Crosby was the Penguins head coach. Who is this Therrien guy?

The Pens coaching issues started before this losing streak. They were having special teams issues and blowing leads in games at the beginning of the season, but somehow still winning. All the work Therrien put into this team to turn them around is now pretty much wasted. This team is the team as the 03-04, a bunch of underachieving guys with no chemistry in need of a coaching change.

I think that the pic says it all. Had a good run Mike

Different sport - same situation - hopefully same result: Argentina national soccer team is probably one of the most talented teams in the world - yet sit tied with Chile for third, 3-1/2 games out with eight games to play for the South American top seed to the 2010 World Cup. The players show no effort - so the coach is fired and they get the coach (Diego Maradona) they want and suddenly, everything begins to click. Call it a solution by mutiny if you wish, but I see the same development in every Pens game I watch this season.

As the article states, Quinn is fiercely loyal to his core group of players. Back in his Toronto days, it was to his veteran players. He wouldn't give the newbies much of an opportunity to perform. I think the World Juniors may have shown him to trust the young guys as well.
Pittsburgh would be a good fit. IMO

Nicely said.

What is this? There are more sightings of Patt Quinn these days than of Elvis Presley! When did he become the reincarnation of Scotty Bowman? Not long ago he was the most despised man in Toronto! Now he is the hotest comodity out there!!

Umm Pat Quinn was never despised in Toronto. I for one miss Pat Quinn as he lead us to the conference finals twice. He got fired in Toronto cause of disfuctinoal ownership and the retardedness of one John Ferguson Jr. He was a good coach and a good GM. Any critism made against him like drafting poorly or whatever is unfair, cause it was before the salary cap era and he could pretty much just buy whoever he wanted cause the Leafs have tons of money. Whoever signs him will be lucky to have him!

Obviously you missed the sarcasm in my post! There's no dissagreement that Pat Quinn is/was a good coach and GM (You'd have known that if you'd have read any of my posts)! Problem (and fact) is many in Toronto didn't know it! And, I've been holding my breath, hoping the Oilers would replace the ineffective MacT with Pat Quinn! But the Oilers have their own version of J.F. Jr. to worry about these days!

I know memory is selective, but there's no denying the fact that Pat Quinn was treated like sheeyet in Toronto by the ownership, the media and a lot of fans who were calling for his head on a platter. I remember watching Leafs games on HNIC in disbelief as Leafs fans booed him (and quite often) towards the end of his tenure. I also remember his detractors gloating when he was finally (and mercifully in my opinion) fired.

Pat Quinn will land on his feet somewhere (Edmonton? Please?) and do very well! He can light a fire under the tails of underachieving players and he's excellent with the young guys!

pure speculation. what a non-story. they will do this with every single team until the end of the season.

Thanks Captain Obvious!!!

Although "very bad" is an understatement. They are just plain sucking right now. (it was extremely painful to say that)
