Lightning to unload Lecavalier, St. Louis?

If the Lightning ownership isn't shopping Vincent Lecavalier, it's only a matter of time before pressure is applied on Martin St. Louis to waive the no-trade clause on his contract that runs through 2010-11 at an annual $5.25 million cap hit.

May as well dump them now. Tampa has no one else besides these two and even with them, can't fill the seats and can't win.
Tampa should just relocate.

That or Barrie and Koules have got to get the heck out of owning the team because they're really killing the team. Their decision to essentially run the team has screwed up their chances from the get go, see Melrose and their nonexistent defense/forward spending binge in the offseason.

Hahahahahahaaaaaaa....the guy just signed a monster long-term contract. He is the face of the organization and pretty much the only recognizable hockey player in the sunshine state. As long as that team is in Tampa Lecavalier is going nowhere.
That being said if he is being shopped (which he is not), I would have no problem with my habs unloading the farm to get him. Aside from AO he is hands down the guy Montrealers would want the most in bleu blanc rouge (and seeing the washington would never in a million years get rid of the most exciting player to lace skates since mario lemieux...).

st-louis on the other hand. good trade bait. he will certainly be able to help a franchise at the deadline. only problem is that there are very few top tier clubs with the cap space to get him.

a trade for st-louis would likely involve prospects and picks so for alot of teams you`d have to ask yourself where they will get the space under the cap. if the price is not too high I can certainly imagine there being alot of interested parties. i do not want to see one damn thread about him going to pittsburgh. They already grossly overspent for a free agent. where`d that get them, 10th in the east right now? I think they learned a lesson.

January 11, 2009  01:15 PM ET

Well .... they said yesterday Vinny is a Lighting for life! Which means ... he's as good as gone!

January 11, 2009  01:16 PM ET

Umm ... read that as "Lightning"

Len Barrie is selling his Bear Mountain Resort for $500 million to Dubai invenstors. If this goes through, the immediate cash issues are solved for the short term. If not however, I'd see them parting with Ryan Malone and/or St. Louis and even Stamkos.

Excellent remark. No need to talk more about this for now.

if Toronto maple leafs were smart they would be all over this trade to get one of these players

Stop dreaming, BGM! The Bs are playing awesome - there's no telling how much I'd like to see a Boston-Chicago game right now - but come back to Earth

Here's the thing, lately Smart and Maple Leafs just don't do well in the same sentence... I'm with you on the benefit of such a move, tough.

January 11, 2009  07:16 PM ET

Hopefully, the leafs will act on this. I doubt they will though. I don't think Kubina wants to go back and I can't see Kaberle waving his no trade clause to move to Florida.
Although................they have dealt with Tampa on numerous occasions in the past so you just never know.

January 11, 2009  07:41 PM ET

Well I am a Tampa fan and I am highly pisst at this team. The only spark is Mike Smith. Lecavalier here and there does something and St. Louis is getting old and his size is going to become a factor.

Tampa wont relocate the team has plenty of fans more then Rays fan, just give them time to find a decent team and just like the Rangers all the bandwagon fans will come out.

You crack me up BGM. While we're at it, how about Lidstrom to the Pens for Mark Eaton.

Trade Stamkos? Are you kidding?

The Pens will take Malone back and we'll take St. Louis as well. The Ning can have Staal.

i didnt realize sturm and st. louis were in the same talent class.... i must have missed all those 90+ point seasons sturm had..... shouldnt axelson and schaeffer be part of the trade too bgm....lol
