Rangers first-rounder a bust?
Politics is always an issue within youth hockey federations, but it simply cannot be good news for the Rangers that their 2008 first-rounder, defenseman Michael Del Zotto, did not even receive an invitation to Canada's selection camp for the World Juniors, can it?

I disagree. Del Zotto is a young man and there is plenty of time to develop him. He needs to be surrounded by player development people. Maybe you should ask the front office of the Rangers what they are doing to aid in bringing him along. He is an 18 year old kid!

Well Canada was loaded so it's not saying much. The Rangers' front office needs to help develop him and wait until they decide on his future.

Defensemen always take longer to develop. Once again the Post throws out some drivel.

What a stupid article; they are questionning whether or not a player is a bust 6 months after he was drafted. How many 18 year olds play defence in the NHL? Phaneuf...anyone else? A player`s ability to play on team Canada junior has very little to do with his ability to make the NHL...look at it as a comparable to playing College Football vs. NFL, the big man on campus doesn`t always make the big show.
Angelo Esposito and P.K. Subban had HUGE tournaments, I doubt either of them will make an nhl impact anytime soon (Subban, although I really like the guy would ave trouble being a top 4 defence in Hamilton and Espo might get a chance if only because he is with Atlanta).
Guillaume Latendresse is not a bad player (nor is he a good player!), he had nhl experience and team Canada begrudgingly took him on as a fourth liner. He barely touched the ice because his style didn`t fit in at all with the style that team Canada plays (Latendresse; slow/puck possession vs Team Canada; high speed/very little individual play with the puck, loadsa of movement).

We know for sure their top pick, Cherepanov, isn't going to make the Rangers team.

an 18 year old defensman doesn't make the canadian world juniors team so he's gonna be a bust in the nhl? he's got tons of potential and is an incredible offensive defensman who's gotta work on his defensive play in his own zone. sanguinetti, girardi, staal, and del zotto should be the core on the blueline for many years to come in nyc. now the rangers just have to dump redden somehow

Yep he is a bust, its basic logic! 18-years old and not selected to the World Juniors Team? Might as well dig a grave next to Jagr, Avery, and Shannahan thats where he is headed to.
(Of course according to the great balanced writing of the New York Post, Also was not the New York Post going bankrupt? Yeah now we know why.

The players chosen were chosen as follows:
QMJHL - 3
OHL -6
WHL -12
Maybe Pat Quinn was more comfortable with the players he saw regularily.
