Mavs holding Diop out for trade?
Two hours before tip-off, DeSagana Diop arrived at Arco Arena to get in some extra work. He didn't realize that would be his only time on the court Sunday evening. That Diop did not play fueled pre-game speculation that the Mavericks were considering a trade that would involve the 7-footer. Coach Rick Carlisle emphasized that it was strictly a coach's decision and nothing should be read into it. The timing made it strange. Earlier, rumors swirled that the Mavs were talking with Charlotte about a Diop swap for point guard Raymond Felton. There would have to be other parts involved to make it work, and perhaps a third team. By all accounts, any deal with Charlotte was on life-support Sunday night, if not completely dead, although it could always be rekindled. Diop said after the game that he had heard about it, but that rumors are part of the NBA life leading up to the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

The problem w/ Dallas is when a player is signed to a long term deal for their past good performance then when signed the player then relaxes and does not care about the team anymore. This involves all Dallas franchise including the Cowboys. Money does the opposite for these players. They should work harder but instead they feel like they don't owe anything to the team and the city. Put JHo, Stack, Diop, Damp, Terrel Owens, Roy Williamsx2, Romo, etc. in those categories. I'm sure there are other athletes out there that does that.

At least these Dallas trade rumours can't last quite as long as those Sundin rumours that haunted this site.

not sure if I buy that explanation....guam
To be honest- he just simply isn't that good. He's a body, a role player..these are the tyoes of players you don't sign to long term deals- you go year to year (or 2) with them

DeSangana Diop better thank his parents for his DNA because if he wasn't tall he would have been out of the NBA a long time ago. Since the Cavs took him at the 8th spot back in the 2001 Draft, all this dude has done is steal paychecks.

You know what's funny? The only owner who really seems to covet Diop is Mark Cuban. He was reluctant to trade him last season. Then scooped him up right away as a free agent. Now he's on the move again. Look for Cuban to do everything in his power to get him back again next summer.

Exactly! I don't think he'd be a starter in the D-League.

Im suprised the Mavs aren't dangling two more #1 picks in a trade for an overpaid vet, the guy that needs to go is Howard, talk about stealing a paycheck.

He gets $6.7 mil a season for four seasons I think I read somewhere. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! He's used as a defender for about 8-10 minutes a game, sits on the bench the rest.

Seriously. Diop would get owned in the NBA by Candace Parker.

Why would Charlotte want Diop. He and Okafor are clones - no nonsense defense - zero offense. Unless they plan on trading Okafor they are making a Memphis trade.
