Mavericks listening to Stackhouse offers

The Mavericks are still listening to offers for Jerry Stackhouse and on paper he might seem a good fit for the Knicks, who have a hole at SG. But Stackhouse is on the decline and scouts around the league say a player like him could be tough for Mike D'Antoni to deal with, especially with the current makeup of the Knicks. D'Antoni is having enough trouble trying to get Al Harrington to pass the ball and convince him that Seven Seconds or Less isn't the amount of time he should take to dribble the ball and make a move.

Must be a Mavs trading day

January 12, 2009  08:35 AM ET

Stack will not get traded. Some other players in the Mavs has to be part of the deal for Stack to get moved out.

January 12, 2009  08:45 AM ET

How is he(Stackhouse) a good fit on paper?. He is done.

January 12, 2009  08:47 AM ET

At this point in his career, what will Stackhouse fetch the Mavs in a deal that really helps the team?

"How is he(Stackhouse) a good fit on paper?. "

Agree-
he is simply useless for a bottom feeding team (like the knicks) to pick up....
A team like orlando- if they could get him for beans- would be interesting since they have a hole at 2 guard....
not saying stack would be a difference maker there- but he might be able to give them some minutes

January 12, 2009  09:08 AM ET

Stack is DONE!!!

January 12, 2009  09:08 AM ET

how much listening do they need to do... any player that will get minutes or one with a expiring contract u take. they dont want him he doesnt wanna be there so dont play hard ball

January 12, 2009  09:26 AM ET

Stackhouse has a decent contract but he is done. Any team that acquires him is only doing so for cap reasons. He could possibly go to a team that could use a veteran prescense for 15-20 minutes a game but they shouldn't expect much.

January 12, 2009  09:43 AM ET

Well it's Monday, and time for another dumb idea from the New York papers. The Knicks need a 50 year old "shooting" guard, like they need a staph infection in the locker room. Especially one whos shot is failing him.

January 12, 2009  09:49 AM ET

At some point, the Knicks are going to have to start looking to get better. Certainly the contracts are a consideration, but when is the last time we heard about a player that might be instrumental in improving the team's won/loss record?

January 12, 2009  10:52 AM ET

Stackhouse will not be a Knick, thankfully.

The current team is built to "compete" not to win. D'Antoni has convinced management and ownership to sacrafice "winning" for just "competing" for a couple of years. But if he's not successful in the 2010 summer lottery, he'll be gone.

January 12, 2009  10:58 AM ET

I think you would want him because he contract is expiring, I think. He is old and slow though and hasnt played really all year.

January 12, 2009  11:06 AM ET

"D'Antoni has convinced management and ownership to sacrafice "winning" for just "competing" for a couple of years"

And that is totally acceptable to us knick fans.
We CANNOT/COULD NOT 'win' as we were constructed when the season started.
We have been AWFUL for 5 years. And the whole construct of the team was flawed- which would've prevented us from doing any real challenging for 3-5 years.
Now- we at least have a 2 year (1 1/2 year) timeframe where we can at least move in a better direction....

It's all about the big picture- unless you have 5 very good players- you NEED a star to win in the league- we had neither good players nor a superstar

January 12, 2009  11:46 AM ET

I like Stack in Orlando, he would be clutch for them. Stack for Al Harrington is a good trade for the Mavs but that won't happen.

January 12, 2009  12:11 PM ET

Stackhouse is done so no wonder the Mavs are going to try to deal him

January 12, 2009  12:11 PM ET

What about Stackhouse for JJ Reddick in some form or another.

January 12, 2009  12:48 PM ET

The people who write this crap think EVERY PLAYER IN THE NBA is a good fit for the Knicks - Lebron, Bosh, Kidd, EVERYONE is a good fit for the Knicks. Give me a damn break

January 12, 2009  01:21 PM ET

harold minor for stackhouse thats how much he's worth!!!lol old fart

You mean a player actually willing to go there? If so none.
