His 14th NFL season in the rearview mirror, Kerry Collins said he has two options -- remain a starter, preferably with the Titans, or retire to a life on the farm. The Titans aren't ready to send the veteran quarterback out to pasture. Coach Jeff Fisher made that clear, setting in motion an important offseason for Collins as well as Vince Young. I made my case known, that I'd like to be here and feel that I can be a part of several more good seasons. I have several good years left in me, I know that," Collins said. "I will pack up and go somewhere else. I don't want to, but that's the reality of this business. -- I am a starter in this league and if nothing materializes that way I will retire.'' Just two days into the offseason, Fisher wasn't prepared to declare his plans at quarterback, but he said the Titans would like to re-sign Collins, who's at the end of his two-year contract.

Sounds like he wants to challenge McNabb and Leinart for biggest ego in the NFL.

Have you ever heard of putting the team's interests first?

What is it with these QBs. They get treated like royalty in HS and expect it to continue for the rest of their lives.

Collins is an efficient QB, which is ideal for a team with a good defense. His arm strength is still there. After playing so well and proving he can still be a starter, I can see why he would want to continue starting. I don't think it is selfish for him to say he doesn't want to be a backup. He is giving the Titans lots of time to decide if they want him, or will let him go (he is about to be a free agent).

Unlike Brett who won't tell you until its too late to do anything, then change his mind again.

"Start me or I am done", Then you are done

I hear that the Lions need a starting QB. Just a rumor though...

This is a play for cash. Think about it. Collins wants a better contract than his past two years at the Titans. He gave them a great season as the starter now he wants to be paid like a starter. Can't say that I blame the guy. He will be back with the Titans with a nice fat paycheck next season starter or not.

they titans will resign him, no question about it. even when vy got his shot in mop up duty he looked like that is where he belonged, mop up duty similar to a janitor. the titans wouldnt have been in the position they were in this yr with vy at the healm. if the titans let him walk a team most certainly will pick him up, there are at least 6 teams that will be chomping at the bit to get this guy on their respective teams

He did lead his team to a 13-3 (14-2? Can't remember) record. He has the argument to be starter but I wouldn't trust him to do it again. I'm not saying Vince Young is better but I think they should just figure it out during pre-season. The last thing they need is a qb controversy. Both qbs get depressed very easily. That would frighten me.

January 13, 2009  07:20 AM ET

This demand makes absolute sense to me. Collins should be insulted if they even open the competition for the position of starting quarterback. Vince Young lacks the necessary maturity at this point. And if there's one thing that Kerry Collins has, it's maturity.

January 13, 2009  07:38 AM ET

Vince Young is just waiting for the space ship to return and give him advise from his leader

January 13, 2009  07:44 AM ET

I think there is a QB free in New England,

January 13, 2009  07:46 AM ET

how is he being a premadonna for wanting to retain his starting job? he led his team to 13-3 and a #1 seed. heck, if not for the CJ injury and some bogus unlucky fumble recoveries, they may still be in the playoffs. i fully agree with him, and that's coming from a colts fan.

January 13, 2009  07:58 AM ET

I think Collins would get ravaged if he went anywhere else that didn't have a stellar O-line.

January 13, 2009  08:00 AM ET

I don't really think he did anything this year it is not real hard to hand the ball off.

January 13, 2009  08:00 AM ET

Kerry Collins = Trent Dilfer minus the ring.

January 13, 2009  08:01 AM ET

He's sounding like Vince...

January 13, 2009  08:02 AM ET

If though Kerry inst the greatest QB in the league, he will still probably win more games for the titans, than VY.

possibly.....

He will start somewhere next year. In a league short on quality QBs he has value. The Vikings may want to think about giving him a contract...
