Browns leaning toward Ravens exec

Look for George Kokinis to be the next Browns general manager. His interview with owner Randy Lerner went well, and Kokinis returned from the meeting Sunday night enthused and intrigued by the chance to run the team. He obviously can change his mind and back out as he is very comfortable working for Ozzie Newsome and the Baltimore Ravens, but many of Kokinis' friends are telling him this is a tremendous chance for him to make an impact on a franchise desperate for a winner. If Scott Pioli does not take the job as general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kokinis is on the short list to be interviewed for the position. The Browns are not the only team interested in the Ravens' director of pro personnel.

I was going to make a comment about this guy looking like a British soccer fan. Then I ran an online search. My god he owns a soccer team!

No wonder the Cleveland Browns can't get their act together. This guy can't figure out which "football" his team is playing. Cleveland deserves better.

Funny stuff

He turned that soccer team around and made it a winner. Hopefully he can do some of that with the Browns too. They have a talented team, they just need the right guys to make them play.

No matter who the Browns hire the fans will be against it. That's just the way Browns fans are.

What is it about the Browns infatuation with Baltimore's front office? Isn't that where Phil Savage came from?

Baltimore and Bellichick. I guess the Browns like "B's."

Kokinis and Mangini, two very talented football guys are coming to the Browns. They should do well for this team, get the prima donna's in line or outta there! Develope Quinn, restructure DA's contract to back up, draft wise. 2009 Go Browns!

He looks like that psycho from the movie Fargo - is that him ???

January 13, 2009  06:07 PM ET

Just what the Brown's need, a psycho! Time to win!

Lerner is a great guy who gives back to the community, and he's a really savvy businessman. If you've followed this, at least Lerner had an angle. Time will tell whether the way he went about this process was a good decision or not. The NFL is a copy cat league, but someone always bucks the trend and if it works, they get copied. If it doesn't, they get vilified for not copying the latest trend. I'm cautiously optomistic, even if my first choice would have been a special teams guy because their job is closest to what a head coach actually does.

Funny Stuff.... This and American Idol ... You can't beat that

According to Wikipedia (which isn't always the most accurate source of information) Randy Lerner is only forty-six. Looking at him, I would have guessed mid to late fifties.

Anyway, that's not the point of this 'topical debate'. It doesn't matter what team he's getting personnel from if they can do their job and do it well. At least he's going for people from successful teams. It's not like he's poaching staff from the Lions and Rams.

And all they really want is Ozzy Newsome.. All they can do is keep getting his understudies, close but no cigar.
