09:32 AM ET 01.14 | The Rockets are putting a positive spin on this, but Waiting for Tracy is a play that nobody in Houston wants to see anymore -- up to and including the big man, Yao Ming. "They don't speak," an extremely plugged-in person tells me. "And Yao wants him out." That's not likely this season, as McGrady's $20.3 million is toxic to too many teams' luxury tax plans. Next summer, though, when McGrady will have an expiring, $22.4 million contract, teams may well circle the Rockets looking to make a deal. It's not personal between Yao and McGrady. They like one another. But Yao's frustration is real. And Yao is not the only person that's grown tired of McGrady's self-diagnosis, his up-to-the-last-minute decisions on whether he'll play or not. This isn't questioning his toughness; McGrady took a bunch of pain-killing shots just to get through the first round of the playoffs. And it's unfair of anyone to judge McGrady on his ability to play well in pain; some can, some can't. Ron Artest wanted to keep playing on what the team is now calling a "stress reaction" in his ankle after gutting it out for a month, but he's been shut down for a week to 10 days. One veteran scout who worked a Rockets game recently was shocked by the deterioration in the still-29-year-old McGrady's game.

how many games has Yao missed in the last 2 or 3 years?

He hasn't been Mr. Health either...

January 14, 2009  10:07 AM ET

Finally. So the fans in Houston can moan about T-Mac and wanting him traded and T-Mac's supporters say the fans can't judge him. Now we have YAO MING saying he wants McGrady traded! Will Alexander wake up and realize that his foundation of Yao and T-Mac is leaning over 45 degrees on T-Mac's side because he is cracked and can't take the strain? I don't even care if we only get a 2nd round pick for T-Mac as long as the Rockets completely get rid of his contract (yep, I know we will probably have to take a fat, lazy contract back in return) and can get a FA or draftee who wants/can play for this team.

January 14, 2009  10:15 AM ET

If Houston were smart they would try to unload McLazy
if/when they can.... it's not necessarily the length of the contract
being a probelm.....as much as the actual dollar amount-
-since it expires before the 2010 summer-
its HIM- who the hell would want to trade for an oft-injured
guy who has NEVER shown any real heart and is on the
downside of his career ?

I realy hate this type of story. "An extremely plugged in person..." yeah, right.

January 14, 2009  10:31 AM ET

This might be the only time you ever hear me say anything like this...... trade him for Marbury!

Exactly what the thread was intended to do. YAO DIDN"T SAY ANYTHING. The article is supposedly the comments of "an extremely plugged in person." (whatever that means) This is what's known as "yellow journalism." However until someone speaks to Yao, people like you can take the story and run with it instead of getting the facts.

HOU needs to explore these trade scenarios:

1. Mcgrady & ca$h for salaries diferential & a 1st pick for Boozer & Harpring & Almond.

*UTAH gets: the good SG it has been missing since ... ever, cash (wich is always good) and the 1st pick (wich is always good too). They also let go 2 subutilized players and one that doesnt want to be there next year. Plus, they get to play Millsap ant watch him become a star.
*HOU gets: the good PF it has been missing since ... ever too, the 2 good backups and a payroll cut for next year. They would take a huge gamble with Boozer, but with their cap space they can make a good offer or they could let him go and have money to spend for the next 2 years.
BOTH receive injury prones ... so, on that aspect, they are even.

2. Mcgrady & Hayes & Head & Ca$h for salries diferential & two 2nd picks for Gordon & Huges & Gooden (CHI)

*CHI gets: the star to complement Rose (at least until 2010), good backups, cash and the 2 picks (wich are good commodities to possible further trades).
*HOU gets: a replacement for TMac and 2 good backups, plus cap space for 2009.

P.D.
Both scenarios give every team involved a boost on: Ticket & Merchandise sales and Media cover & Public relations ... wich is priceless in an economy as it is !

Yao no rike McGrady?

January 14, 2009  10:42 AM ET

I sort of agree with one player: This would be the perfect Trade for Marbury. With Yao not really being the leader type or inability to lead due to cultural background (mainly language barriers), Marbury would get what he wants: to be the leader of a team. Plus Marbury has skills and isn't hurt much. Finally, Artest is on the team and his rep alone will keep Marbury in line.

TMac is really letting people down. Everyone thought it would be Vince Carter who was soft. Even while always playing well, Vince Carter has gotten the bad rap while TMac the pass. Look at the nets while Vince Carter quietly balls and still gets his numbers while not hurting his teammates. Maybe that's another option...TMac for Vince Carter...that would be interesting...

Finally Yao has little room to complain, but his injuries were real injuries like broken bones, torn muscles, etc. TMac injuries are more like physical conditions that will never go away and that he must either learn to play with without complaint or retire.

Ben Gordon & kirk Hirich for T-Mac. I think those two & with the pieces houston has already I think they can be solid.

Boozer at this stage is a MUCH better all around player than Tmac-
why would utah trade him for an older (body). That makes no
sense for the Jazz

Boozer is a solid 20-10 + guy & is ENTERING his prime
McLazy may get you 20 on some nights- but at this stage is a
jumpshooting 15-18 pt player - with LESS than 5 rbs/assts per
and is on the downside of his career

January 14, 2009  10:48 AM ET

McGrady has been one of the bigger disappointments over the last decade. He looked like he was gonna be a HOFer but theres no way in hell thats gonna happen.

Just becasue we are the knicks- doesn't mean we have to
acquire EVERY washed up, never reaching their potential player
in the league.........lol

January 14, 2009  10:51 AM ET

Dear Houston Rockets - trade him to New York for Marbury's contract straight up. Marbury, Yao and Artest can get Houston out of the first round. Then you can use the savings to sign a decent guard next season if Marbury acts up.

That was what the Iverson trade to Detroit was all about. Just do it!

January 14, 2009  10:59 AM ET

I cant imagine Yao doing this, he has always been that nice guy. But yes this is the answer to make the team better.

Lets not do anything hasty now. He does need to be traded SOON,but the Rockets have a proven PG in Alston he is developing into a more efficient guard year by year. The only purpose "Starbury" would serve Houston would be to show NASA how to locate his ego in the Big Dipper. If the Rockets want to dump Mcgrady send him to the Heat for Marion or the Bulls for two of their guards.,but dont bring Maubury anywhere near the state of Texas.
