Seminoles snag No. 1 QB recruit
Posted: Thursday June 28, 2007 07:55AM ET
Florida State, which already was off to a hot start in football recruiting, landed its 12th oral commitment for the class of 2008 on Wednesday, and this one could be the best of the bunch. Virginia Beach Bayside's E.J. Manuel, who is rated by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 1 high school quarterback, committed to the Seminoles during a news conference at his school Wednesday afternoon. Manuel credited the arrival of a new offensive coaching staff at Florida State, which is led by first-year coordinator Jimbo Fisher, as a primary reason for his decision.

Bobby now prays that he lives long enough to see the kid take a snap.

Report Offensive CommentI'm not sure it's Bowden's last go-round, Canada....his health is decent, he still has the fire in his belly, and he's excited about the changes made to the program.
And he's STILL younger than Paterno. I think he goes about four more, barring a health setback, or a couple of 6-loss seasons.

Report Offensive CommentFSU is finally starting early rather than pouring it on and stealing commitments late. EJ is gonna help recruit Deion Walker out of VA and we are loading up to bring in Julio Jones from Foley, AL. Along with Bradham and Carr helping recruit guys on the D FSU is gonna load up for one final push so Bobby and the Noles get back to the powerhouse we used to be. And Im calling it now. Jimbo is being groomed to take the Head Ball Coach spot when The Legend retires. Go Noles!

Report Offensive CommentNolesBucsFan24, couldn't have said it better myself. I beleive when Joe Pa announces his retirement, that Coach Bowden will be close behind and then Jimbo Fisher will take over.

Report Offensive CommentGreat pickup by all means but isnt he rated #18 and not #1 by rivals as stated here? Anyways, would love to see this guy in action if Ponder can't seal the deal.

Report Offensive Commentsorry i was referring to Terrelle Pryor as being #1 QB not as in a sense overall rated player..but as i see they aren't stating the playing style of the QB just goin off what people hopefully know already.
boyhitscar81 | 06/28/07, 07:00 PM
Report Offensive CommentManuel is not the number one quarterback, that distinction goes to Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, who is also Rivals.com's number one player in the country. Manuel is still a great prospect, rated number 18 overall.
Still, this is a waste of talent by Manuel going to FSU. Bobby Bowden has been miserable at developing talent, the best example being Lorenzo Booker. Just go look at how hyped Booker was out of high school and he never nearly lived up to that potential. Bowden's teams have completely fizzled on offense the past several years, and expect more of the same.

Report Offensive CommentBooker's development came under the old coaching staff, newsflash there is a completely new offensive coaching staff down at FSU.

Report Offensive CommentRemember the offense under Mark Richt? Now that Jimbo Fisher is on board I can see the offense being back to what it was a few years ago. bkelly you have to remember who the offensive coordinator was at FSU while Booker was there. I cannot for the life of me see how anyone could show their talent under him.
Wait and see, we will come back.

Clearly you're misinformed on this matter. Please allow me to educate you. There are more players in the NFL from FSU than from ANY other school! This is true TODAY and has been for many years. Don't take my word for it, do the research!

Report Offensive CommentTerrell Pryor is being recruited as an athlete by many schools. I thought that Dayne Crist was the number one QB recruit. I guess I was wrong!

"Don't take my word for it, do the research!"
Ok, here is the research, according to sportsillustrated.com
top 10 for most current players in the nfl by school, including '07 draft
1. Ohio State - 56
2. Miami - 56
3. Michigan - 50
4. Georgia - 49
5. Florida State - 48
6. LSU - 48
7. Tennessee - 47
8. Florida - 45
9. Notre Dame - 41
10. USC - 39
so you're actually wrong on that front also.

Report Offensive CommentI would like to add that the Wall Street Journal "looked at how many of each school's alumni have made it to the NFL and how effective they've been there. After copying down every player who appeared on an NFL game roster in 2005 and sorting them by college, we devised a six-point scale and gave every player a score based on what role they played in each game (a start was worth more than a substitution) and the outcome (a win was worth more than a loss)" FSU was ranked #1. Seems to me that Bobby did a fine job of developing NFL talent.

Report Offensive CommentEasy to take potshots, bkelly, when you don't even list a favorite team. And besides, top 5 in number of CURRENT NFL players? That's hardly a failure to develop talent.
