Heat considering O'Neal trade

09:08 AM ET 01.17 | As Jermaine O'Neal and his troublesome right knee returned to the Toronto lineup on Friday night, perhaps no one studied the Toronto Raptors center more closely than Pat Riley. The Miami Heat president has been seriously considering a trade package for O'Neal that would send Shawn Marion to Toronto, multiple league sources said. Yet Riley first needs to see O'Neal's progress before he'll make the leap of faith on a trade. Nevertheless, O'Neal, 30, was telling league associates as recently as Friday that he believes there's a good chance he'll end up in Miami. "If he's healthy," one source close to O'Neal said Friday, "it could very well happen." League executives say that Riley has been determined to make a deal for a center, and has had substantive talks with Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo.

Im tired of this bla bla talk.
Marion and scrub Marcus Banks for Oneal if he is healthy!
If not Brad Miller is our guy.

January 17, 2009  09:39 AM ET

Miami will have to give up either Chalmers, Cook or Quinn to get Brad Miller. Brad Miller is definitly the Heats top prospect. I've never been a fan of O'neal. I think all the drama when he was with the Pacers turned me off. BRAD MILLER OR HOLD OFF UNTIL THE OFF SEASON....

Marion makes 17.9 mil Brad Makes 11 mil the kings would have to throw in a scrub.
We Keep Brad & waive the scrub.

Brad Miller is the smart move, and will have immediate impact, which means Riley will probably go after O'Neal. About the time the Heat are in position to accomplish something, O'Neal will go down with another injury and it will be 2 more years before Miami recovers.

Co-sign. Marion for O'Neal or Marion for Miller and Douby or another scrub (just to make salaries match).

Brad Miller and Bobby Jackson for Shawn Marion, would be great from the Heat point of view.

o'neal is finished at this point in his career. he wont stay healthy so this is a bad trade. they have to be able to get more for marion than this.

miller is the best option for the heat JO is out of the question

January 17, 2009  12:09 PM ET

no doubt frank. o'neal career as far as stardom is concerned is over. There still some left in the tank, but not much. He always injured. This would not be a good trade for anyone team unless his contract expires in the coming year.

January 17, 2009  12:22 PM ET

Bad move

January 17, 2009  12:45 PM ET

miller is helpful offensively because he can move the ball nicely for a big man n has a solid jumper, but hes also soft and oneal will bring the same type of toughness that d wade has and oneal is better in the post, which the heat need lacking a solid go to guy in the post to get an easy bucket rather than d wade doing everything

January 17, 2009  12:48 PM ET

O'Neal ripped the Heat to shreds the last 2 times he played them. JO has been very good when he is in the lineup. I don't see why Heat fans have any interest in Brad Miller. You seem to need low post help. Miller floats to the top of the key and jacks jumpers. He's not a very good rebounder anymore. Also, I've seen some R-Tards dreaming that Marion for Miller AND Salmons is going to happen! lol KEEP DREAMING!

I see this as a win win for the Heat and Raps. The Raps need to give more playing time to Barngani and the Heat need to give more playing time to B-Eazy. This also puts the Heat in the mix for 2010.

January 17, 2009  01:08 PM ET

jermaine o'neal is a beast but hes too injury prone. brad miller is not going to make the heat a contender. i say they sit tight and wait for boozer.

January 17, 2009  01:40 PM ET

First of all, Miami needs a defensive center, Brad Miller can???t play defense. Second, you guys are only looking toward this year. O'Neal's contract expires in 2010 the same year as Lebron, Bosh, and Amare. In 2010, we resign wade and then sign either Bosh or Amare.

Line up- 2011
PG- Chalmers
SG- Wade
SF- someone who can shoot threes and defend (If we go small it could be Cook)
PF- Beasley
C- Bosh or Amare

none of you losers know what your talking about, especially Dee of Dees. Dee has been harping about B Miller for weeks. Get over Miller! and yourself. Everyone who has traked the HEAT over the years knows that when it comes to trades Riley never says anything and then BAM! a trade goes thru that no one expected. Then comes the obvious: O'Neal would be terrible for the HEAT (and so would Miller who plays no defense) look what he did for the Raptors. The HEAT are a running group now, uptempo, O'neal slowed the Raps down (the reason they suck this year, hello Philly you feeling the same with Brand?!) and would the HEAT. HEaters, be patient, Anthony Johnson will develop into a credible C/PF shot blocker rebounder. Yes they need a starting C but O'Neil's shaky knees and his fat contract are not the answer. If HEAT really need to trade, look at BLazers or Golden state, they have several very good young centers (Prizbilla, Bierdrins, etc) who block shots, pass and are 7ft and they are backups!!!! get real people, and trust in Riles, he hasnt let us down yet.
