06:28 AM ET 01.19 | Morgan Park defensive end Craig Drummond, who committed to Illinois on his 18th birthday in November, said Sunday night he has re-opened his recruiting process and is seriously considering Mississippi. ''Illinois no longer is in the picture,'' said the 6-5, 265-pound Drummond, who is rated among the top 100 seniors in the nation. ''There was some stuff going on with them -- I don't want to talk about it -- but I didn't feel it was the right place for me. This is the best decision for me.'' He said he will visit the Ole Miss campus this weekend and plans to look at other schools. National signing day is Feb. 4.

What makes sense? You have no idea why this kid is backing out. IL can't comment on recruits per NCAA rules. Maybe this is an issue with Drummond and not Illinois? And that's why Drummond won't comment. We don't know and never will unless we find out Drummond ends up not getting cleared with NCAA clearinghouse.

Perhaps something isn't kosher up there in Champaign, and that tells me that it's the ZOOKER - not this kid - based on his quote.

Based om that kid's quote, there's something going on at Illinois that isn't kosher, and that falls back on the ZOOKER.

You have no idea what's going on in this kid's head. How do you not know he has family down there, or a connection to some coach. Stuff going at Illinois, that can mean anything, and not necessarily something crooked. Perhaps he's a prima donna, and didn't get something he wanted.
Mississippi head and shoulders above? This just in, its not major success to make a bowl game. Sure, they beat Florida this year, but I'm sure the Gators will drop a 60 on them next year.

I would say they are comparable programs, Illinois is not a joke anymore

Is going 5-6 this past season anything to be proud of? Hardly. Don't kid yourself; Zook is NOT a good coach.

did you see what he did last year with a bunch of scrubs...give him a couple of recruiting classes in illinois(he has chicago, east st louis, peoria) and they are gonna be real good. He has less competition in recruiting than he did at florida.

Zook isn't a bad coach. He always beat Georgia and FSU when he was at Florida. However, he underperforms against lesser opponents. I never understood his offense, and I'm not sure he really does either. He is a defense guy.
Ole Miss does not have a consistent history of winning, but they have a coach with something to prove, and they will be a force in the SEC West (with Alabama and LSU).
And, they have an excellent former U of Texas QB in Snead.

The fact is, Drummond does not have the academics to get into Illinois. That is why he is saying Illinois isn't in the picture. This has to do with academics, not football. He shouldn't have that problem getting into a SEC school.

Yeah, last year he went 5-6 and didn't qualify for a bowl game with a bunch of scrubs.

"Zook isn't a bad coach"? He was HORRIBLE. Ok, he beat UGA in 2002 and FSU as a lame-duck, mind you, in 2004 but otherwise never beat them. You did hit the nail on the head about him not understanding his offense; for that matter, he was so clueless he never understood his defense, either. He couldn't figure out how to play to win, only try to avoid a loss. Zook could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory; case in point the 2003 game against Miami that we never should have lost. He made too many excuses and swept matters under the rug more often than not; he didn't take accountability for what went wrong, and all he could say over and over again was "it is correctlable, and we're getting better and better" to dodge the issue whenever he was asked by an interviewer.
Ole Miss was lucky to get Houston Nutt IMO after they got rid of Ed Orgeron; this guy proved at Arkansas that he knows how to win games. Their Cotton Bowl win over Texas Tech was huge, and this should bolster them heading into 2009.

Perhaps he would have an easier time being admitted to Ole Miss, the school of William Faulkner.
However, do not criticize the academics of the SEC.
By the US News & World Report Rankings:
Northwestern #12 - Big 10
Vanderbilt #18 - SEC
Michigan #26 - Big 10
Wisconsin - Madison #35 - Big 10
Illinois #40 - Big 10
Penn State #47 - Big 10
Florida #49 - SEC
Georgia #58 - SEC
Maybe he should try the SEC West.

Yeah, they ran him off because of that egomaniac QB, Mitch Mustain, who will be starting at USC next year.
Nutt set up an offense that ran the ball first with Darren McFadden (who was in the running for the Heisman). It pissed off Mustain and his parents, and he left the university and transferred to USC. The offensive coordinator left too because he thought he was brought in just because of Mustain (he was his HS coach).
Despite winning the SEC Championship a few years back and winning with McFadden, the alumni wanted him ousted.
Look what they have now.
