05:25 AM ET 01.20 | With each passing hour, speculation is mounting that former Bucs coach Jon Gruden could become the next coach at Notre Dame. Apart from the rumors published recently in the New York Daily News, we're hearing more and more talk pointing to the possibility that something will be going down, apparently right after the Irish's incoming recruiting class give their binding, written commitments to attend the school, on the assumption that Weis will be the head coach. And so, once it's too late for the recruits to change their minds, they might find out that they'll have a new head coach when spring practice opens.

Other than one a few occasions, existing college coaches make better college head coaches. The transition from the NFL to college can work, but not as often as taking established college coaches.

Also Gruden's philosophy about having a stable of QBs won't work on a college team.

IF Gruden comes to Notre Dame, it will be to fill the OC job, NOT the HC job. This is 100% RUMOR!

This boy aint no good coach becasue his success was with Dungy's team, Dungy's clothes. yes he word Dungy's outfits for the sidelines so that luck would be on the team's side. And it worked. Dungy's players came through and won it for Dungy. It was all over the sports world. Dungyu's team won the Super Bowl in TampaBay. This Chucky doll is like voodoo and bad for the teams that select him. Very voodoo. Stay away from Chucky the doll.

Didn't he play the Oakland Raiders in the Superbowl, his first year after leaving? Wasn't that the team he built? Don't give me that crud that he isn't a good coach. He built Oakland up to a superbowl caliber team. Look what's happened to them now.

Didn't he play against the Raiders in the Superbowl? Wasn't he the coach of the Raiders the year before? He built the Raiders to be a superbowl caliber team. Look at them now.

Some coaches do well going from the pros to college....some coaches do well going from college to pros....some players do well going from college to pros.....some are busts......some players who we never heard of in college do well in the pros...some do not do well......my point is one never knows until its decided on the field..only history can be the judge of that.

I guess that offer Gruden had to come to Tennessee doesn't look so bad now that he's unemployed.

Notre Dame has such a joke schedule a moron could win 8+ games, which will be enough to keep Weis's job anyway. When is Notre Dame going to figure out they're not special any more?

January 20, 2009  08:51 AM ET

Notre Dame could win 8+ games with that joke schedule easy, no way they fire Weis. Eventually they're figure out what we all know, that Notre Dame is no longer a top tier team.

January 20, 2009  08:56 AM ET

Hey Bob Choon...Dungy couldn't win with Dungy's team in Tampa...what does that say about him. The fact Gruden won the SuperBowl with the team Dungy assembled completely negates any argument you have to say one coach is better than the other.
