Suns frustrated with Stoudemire
After the Suns' worst loss of the season, the fingers can point just about anywhere, but much of the fans' wrath starts with reason No. 1, as in the franchise player's number. Amare Stoudemire scored three points Monday at Boston. It was his career's worst scoring game in which he played at least 30 minutes. It also was his most precipitous game-to-game dropoff, after scoring 31 on Sunday. The frustrations with Stoudemire are not solely about offense, although Sunday's 30-point game was only his third of the season. He had 21 30-point games last season under Mike D'Antoni, whose Knicks host the Suns today, and 13 of the 21 came after Shaquille O'Neal was acquired in February. There are ongoing issues with Stoudemire's lapses on defense and rebounding. His mistakes on rotations and weak-side help can't be numerated, except that they are part of how the Suns are giving up more points than any potential playoff team. Since Thanksgiving, the Suns have held three opponents in the 90s. He has talked about wanting to be the go-to guy, getting back to striking fear in opponents and getting his "gorilla game" on. But he has gone from being nearly voted into the All-Star Game starting lineup to potentially being left out of the game in Phoenix, especially if the Suns keep skidding.

Kerr did not want to rock the boat, he looks like he plans to rebuild it.

It's tough when your touches and plays made for you decline. Pick and roll and the fast breaks declined so that means his number would surely decline.

Amare is an offensive player. Enough with this crap about turning him into more of a defensive weapon. He isn't that. Maybe he could focus more on defense but the only way he is going to be effective for the Suns is by getting the touches necessary to put points on the ball.
Amare should be more of a focus on offense. Not Shaquille.

To put points on the board is what I should have said.

Play defense, rebound, play defense, and be a good teammate. All of the weak points in Amare's game have to do with effort, or lack of. Maybe he still thinks he's in high school where he didn't have to try that hard to be great. He needs to grow up and earn the respect that he's looking for.

trade him to the bulls...

Trade him to the Knicks for Starbury and Curry, and include Nash (Should match salaries). Everyone wins, and D'antoni gets a big, one happy family reuniting, hug. Suns get a formiddible presence down low, and a PG who still doesnt play defense and can score better than Nash, who has obviously lost a step.
I normally do not do these trade posts, but I am tired of all the stories about babies not playing well, being frustated, not getting paid enough, disliking coaching philosophies and demanding trades.

Amare and defense are two lines that never meet. If you don't utilize him on offense, he is worthless. I don't see how the Suns are frustrated with him now after so many years of him being exactly the way he is now.
It feels like Kerr didn't, and still doesn't, know what to do. He has created a mess in Phoenix and now the team has lost its identity. It's time to rebuild this baby from the ground up.

I would be too. He barely plays any defense, ever. He can score but for a big man with his skills and his mouth "always claiming how good he is and should be a number one option" he should learn how to play defense on a daily basis. He needs to quit crying and do something to make his team better as a star player does.

Unfortunately this is not american football where a player can choose to specialize in defending against scores from the other team or making scores for their own team. That means that Amare is going to have to play some better defense or he is going to have to make it up by scoring more of his 30+ point games.
However I think the reason he is not is that the new coaching staff has a different philosophy and is going against his talents (which are clearly not defensive). Not that I am excusing him from playing very questionable defense at times.

Man if Steve Kerr even considers this he should be shot.
Sounds great for the Knicks but no way in Hell would Phoenix even think of going for this.

I actually think Stoudemire is overrated. He says he wants to be the franchise guy in Phoenix, that he should have been MVP last year, that he is better than KG and Tim Duncan. He doesn't prove any of that, yeah he is a good offensive player, but that is only half the game. He is too inconsistant to be a franchise player. KG and Duncan are both great offensive AND defensive weapons, hence the reason both have at least one ring and one MVP award, and both have been the franchise player (Duncan still is). The way I look at it, Amare is a great second fiddle player. He would be an excellent second option behind someone like LeBron, Wade, or Kobe. He isn't a leader and isn't the player he thinks he is. He actually believes he is one of, if not THE best player in the league. Dudes don't fear him anymore because the Suns don't allow him to do whatever he wants on offense nowadays, and he's one dimensional. Players feared MJ because he would tear you apart on offense, and not allow you anything on defense. I don't rate Amare highly to be honest.

Well the Suns are a mess right now, i dont know if they really understand what they want too do. Because Shaq cant be stopped within 2 feet of the basket and he is a great passer so he can distribute the ball and kick it out if a double comes and with Amare down in the paint as well it really is deadly. With Shooters like Richardson who can also drive the ball this team should be a lot better. Nash can always spot up and take a 3 when needed as well.

i agree with most of what you say..But the offense in the paint has to go through Shaq, because if you go through Amare, that means Shaq will be on the base line, where he is useless, the defender on shaq can move to double team Amare, because everyone knows Shaq cannot shoot. D'antoni tried this when Shaq got there it didn't work out well. so amare has to be the guy who has to shoot from baseline.
The premise of bringing Shaq was flawed, Kerr talked about defensive toughness, i am sorry Shaq dosenot bring that, he has never been known as a defensive big. If they were looking for efense and rebounds they should have gone for Ben Wallace. he can play defense and does not have to be involved on offense, and he is quick enough to defend on the pick and roll, something Shaq and Amare are horrible at. At as afar as holding Tim Duncan goes Ben would have sufficed. Hey there is still time, Trade Shaq for BEN or a Shooting Big...and that is not easy to find.

I can see why they are frustrated with Amare but the fault shouldnt be entirely placed on his shoulders. He hasnt produced the way that he has in the past but I think that there have been other mistakes. Im not sure why they acquired Jason Richardson. He is outplayed almost each night by Grant Hill. Also, Terry Porter will need time in getting the team to buy into his philosophies. Dont blame it all on Amare!
